I beat the game the other day and agree with anon. It's mediocre and the sidequests range from MMO garbage "kill 10 of X" and, at best, are like 3/10 tier undercooked stuff like Digger and Enya's stuff. I'd say only like the 2 final bosses actually use the combat well though with aggressive use of devil trigger you can stunlock them and melt most of their hp. Story is pure garbo, EVE is a non character, the plot makes no sense, Adam is flat as fuck, etc.

I did all major sidequests (defined as being from NPCs instead of the bounty board) except fishing. I did probably like half of the bounty board but skipped the "find 10 hidden cat" quests since I'd end up just following a guide to speed it up. You want to do about that much to unlock a certain something before the point of no return in any case.

The end of the game just throws like 6 major bosses in a row at you with no levels between them so it ends up going way faster than you'd expect at the midpoint.

Someone tell me how to git gud because I am having two major problems with the combat. I cannot on-react perfect parry basically anything. With the delays and fakeouts in every combo string, even from regular mooks, it's a case of learn it or eat shit for me. I'm getting through on stealth kills and beta skill spam because any fair fight, even with total fodder, costs me half a health bar. Bosses have, surprisingly, been fine. I've beaten them all first go, but I'm getting raped by regular encounters.

Secondly, if I fight more than one enemy at once, it's over. Like the wasteland has loads of areas with 2-3 of the boar guys roaming around but as soon as I have 2 on top of me I might as well put the controller down because I have no idea how to deal with one doing his red big "parry this" combo string at the same time as the other does his purple "dodge backwards" move.

I definitely don't mean to argue about whether an individual should like SB or NA more, but I don't think SB having "better gameplay" is so clear cut. I found it quite monotonous and easy with tons of padding - like not just running across the barren wastelands, not just the generic bounty quests, but just in general how much time is spent like doing swimming shit or solving menial puzzles or looking for codes. NA isn't free of sin but like one already experiences more varied and unique gameplay in the first 1 hour of NA with its blend of shmup and action than you do in the entirety of SB which is just parryslop from start to finish. I'd say certain bosses in SB are winners over NA (mainly the final few) but as a holistic overall game experience Nier Automata is much more respectable and interesting IMO. To say nothing of the elephant in the room with SB copying 80% of NA's aesthetics and plot.

I don't care for Neir Automata's combat system because enemies are boring to fight and very spongy. If you don't like parrying, then you'd never like Stellar Blade's combat system. That's fine as well.

Most of these debates would probably end very quickly if more people admitted having irrational preferences that they're fine with, instead of trying to achieve and objective standard of measurement. Because even if Stellar Blade or NieR Automata were 10/10, 50 million unit selling, GOTY games, that doesn't mean you have to like them.
