I gotta admit, the engine itself is pretty good. It has good graphics and it's been ages since I played a new release that didn't suffer from memory leaks with crashes every 3 hrs.
However, it simply has so much stuff that pulls or quite far away from a 10/10.
It has shitty pathfinding that seemingly gets worse the further you get, they went absolutely ham with the number of locked shit in act 3, it still has lots of bugs after tons of patches, the UI is fucking dogshit, they made retarded changes that makes it even worse than regular 5e bullshit, only 4 characters just doesn't feel right for a DnD campaign, the stakes of the plot are way to fucking high for a low level DnD campaign, etc.

It's not bad, but I hate the fact normalniggers slurp it up like Jesus semen instead of trying to push the industry further into the correct direction.

Shadowheart narratively parallels Durge very well since they're both going through the same thing essentially, a life spent serving evil with lost memories letting them turn things around or go all in on their past. I don't really like her for Tavs, I typically do sillier stuff with them and so end up with Karlach who matches that mood better, but I almost always pick Shart for Durge.

Lae'zel is horny for dragons and likes the Dragonborn racial dialogues [Also likes Orcs and other Gith] but I don't think it affects her actual romance much. She has her cute moments but her romance is only really great if you're also some kind of Fighter and can trump her on skill checks when she tries to top.

Honestly there is too much focus on Romance and it's really annoying that everyone is player sexual and the romances start so quickly. I'd much rather have most of the stories be focused on developing friendships, but Act 1 is pockmarked with all these awkward transitions of characters acting flirty and then you having to go "No Thanks" before they start acting normal again.

True, the game has an issue that part of it feels like it's writing for young woman that are into "romance" novels in mind. You literally can't have friends in this game, just be bros. Helping someone out means wanting to fuck them except if you explicitly show that you aren't interested.
Your relation with Gale goes from learning about him to intimate moment in a flash and it's awkward as hell. Same for Wyll. It feels like in this game you're either fuckbuddies, partners, or friendly coworkers with your companions.

I think the next step for companions in games is actually to look back at Dragon Age 2. Instead of having normal and romance options, their relationship with the player should have more nuance. Enemy, rival, romantic interest, best friend. Obviously with this many branching paths (and potential questlines maybe?) you'd need to cut down on the amount of companions. I would be fine with that sacrifice if it meant that I could meaningfully change my relationships with the party.

I personally think CRPGs don't need more companions than the amount of companion slots you actually have. Your game is designed for a party of 4 companions and the player? You should write your story to have only that many companions available at any given time.Not that you need to only have four companions for the whole game, People can come and go as the story does. At the very least swapping companions should be like one or two button clicks, I hate having to go back to camp to swap out someone just because a story beat popped up.

But I also think CRPGs need to be way shorter but far more dense than they typically are. I also actually like the concept of Origin characters, but they should remain voiced. It's very easy to fix it in a multitude of ways. BG3 just chose one of the most annoying combos which makes it very aggravating when you're trying to use the whole party or keep track of all the story lines. If you're not in combat, swapping out one companion for another should be one mouse click, or one menu where you can swap people around. It should not be entering dialogue to kick someone from the party, then going to camp, then doing another dialogue to pick someone else, and doing that for every single person you want to swap out every single time.

But apparently this is impossible because there is no mod for it and the few mods that give something similar pretty much break the game when it comes to quest and story flags.
