I think the added quests are very much transparent in that, if you didn't already know the original quests by heart, you couldn't tell if they are Blizz or Epoch. I would consider myself pretty well-versed in WoW fluff and there's some nitpicking I made during the public tests, but then, you could also nitpick the inclusion of night elves into the Alliance, and apparently the new quests have gone through a review since, so maybe they're going to be less nitpickable than they used to be (certainly, looking at their Github, I have noted other non-fluff nitpicks I made being addressed).

I played during beta 1 and 2 mostly, and while there were a lot of "baby's first custom quests", I remember coming across a few quests I initially thought were backported from BC or Wrath, but found out were actually totally new, which was really impressive. On the other hand, I really don't like how they've replaced some already existing quests with their own (Mankrik's wife namely). Custom content should always ADD to the world, not replace what's already there.

The way TBC changed classes is in vast majority of cases an obvious natural evolution consistent with the original design (be it adding WC3 hero abilities, adding stuff that frankly should have always been there like Crusader Strike, or fixing gameplay flow issues like thunder clap not being available in defensive stance). There's some questionable changes (like felguard - should demonology not be a master of all demons as opposed to basically replacing the extant demons with a more powerful addition?) but on the net I haven't seen a custom content server that wouldn't have been better off with just going the TBC route.

i'm just not impressed with the bot options that are currently available. my ideal would be gearing up my own party and having my other characters appear as bots, but the modules/addons i've tried for bots have a lot of broken/missing features and lack any kind of inventory management, so questing with more than one character turns into a lot of relogging and inventory management. it's built from the WOTLK version of the game meaning it's a better, more modern client and it's much easier to modify than the 1.12 client. you don't need janky .exe hacks for autoloot, it has borderless windowed out of the box, etc. it's also not just straight vanilla talents, they've made some changes based on things from TBC and WOTLK that worked out as well as some original stuff.

also it's not just the same 20 year old game, they've made a lot of changes. new quests, new items, every dungeon has been extensively reworked so everything has a fresh coat of paint compared to Turtle which has some really janky, amateurish custom content because of their client limitations. For one, the custom content is plentiful and from what I've seen in the test, of very high quality. Secondly, the dungeon and raid content has also been buffed/redesigned to match the new capabilities of classes and contemporary skill levels, so the experience of doing Start/Scholo/MC/BWL/whatever is probably going to be more like doing pre-nerf TBC heroics or buffed SWP. What I would do was hide outside of render distance on top of a hill behind something in the barrens, then use the improved eyes of the beast talent (For 3 minute long eyes of the beast), and then terrorize crossroads for 2:30seconds (30 second run time) with a level 60 stealth cat, which would simply despawn when I ended the channel, which meant that people responding with their own level 60's could never actually find the hunter controlling the cat.

I had a couple different pets but my favorite was my panther with the same name as my AFK level 60 druid (2nd account), because all the time horde newbs would shout that a level 60 druid was ganking them, and then it would confuse the fuck out of people /who ing the character name.

How does this compare to Turtle WoW? I hate that Turtle uses the stupid old client.

It's "TBC baseline": there's some stuff that's changed back to work more like vanilla (for example, enhancement shamans have been changed such that dual-wield isn't trivially better and you can do 2h enha playstyle), there's some stuff from later expansions (like arms warriors getting bladestorm, some of the paladin blessings being converted to "hands", or the general mechanics change of buffs being raid-wide like in Wrath), and some stuff is just custom (including the exact numbers and tuning).

For raids I strongly suspect it's going to be like TBC where it's ideal to have one of each (just to cover the bases, I don't know what speedrunning meta was for TBC Classic, I'm talking about buffed content in which bosses pose a kill threat and you have to do "properly" instead of essentially skipping mechanics). For dungeons it depends on pre-raid itemization and the tuning: in actual TBC of course you had S-tier craftables or otherwise readily accessible gear like Heavy Clefthoof set while paladins have the lowest innate defenses (but good scaling), so for some of the tougher pre-nerf heroics paladins were prone to get globaled with pre-raid gear (by Bonechewer Raveners, Ravenguards, Durnholde Reinforcements, Fel Overseers, and such like). If the dungeons aren't tuned quite that harshly then AoE-tanking capabilities are nice.
