>>712648242 (OP)It is incredible how they could make so many likeable characters in AC6 even thou we don't even see their faces.
Armored Core and Sekiro prove that FromSoftware can create minimalist stories without compromising narrative or character development. I am impressed how at the end of the game I came to care about Ayre, Walter, Iguazu, Rusty and even Snail. Unfortunately, this falls flat in Elden Ring. Melina is one of the most forgettable characters they have ever created. Their "souls" series would be much better if they put a bit more effort in the narrative and npcs.
>>712649493How is AC6 minimalist? From all the modern soulsslop, it has the most written out narrative. Compared to shit liek DS.
>>712649493>came to care about Iguazuwhat the fuck is wrong with you
>>712648674>>712648759this shit was megakino, but I felt like the one who one was him and not me lol
>>712649629It's still 98% gameplay, and much of the story is revealed as you play or on a quick talk after the mission. Compared to other games, there is very little exposition. The DS "story" is basically the item descriptions and the few lines the bosses say before battle.
The main issue for me is that you can't get emotionally attached to anything in DS because the characters and bosses are barely connected to the player characters. You defeat gods and demons and there is no emotional tension, because that creature means nothing to the player besides the gameplay challenge.

Fighting Ayre was glorious and incredibly tragic.
It's clear that she love you.
First part of the fight, she's even trying to show off. Hoping to just disable you and save the Coral.
I really need a webm of her movement, she's walking in a sexy way.
Midway it's clearly not going as well as she hoped and need to get serious even if it means killing you.
By the end she's so afraid and desperate she break and convince herself that you, 621, is the incarnation of the spark of war.
Quite literal here since you are going to burn the entire planet in the "Fire of Raven".

I hope they improve the scale of the game. It's still hard to feel like I'm inside a huge mech because most of the environment is designed for mechs to use.
Slave Zero made me feel bigger than I did in AC.
>>712648242 (OP)Definitely one of their best for sure. Very cool likeable character and a cool looking AC design. Kind of even tempted to get his model kit I just don't have space to display it well though. Got a tiny shit ass room so just going to have to pass on it for now.
>>712649493I haven't played AC6, but Elden Ring easily has the best NPC's out of any of the souls games. Characters are way more fleshed out and have their own little plots and schemes that operate for the most part independently of the player to enrich the world. Rather than being largely just vagabonds drawn from unseen far lands. Melina was pretty flat and cryptic, but it's clear from the DLC that she's meant to be this character shrouded in mystery.
Some stands out for me were Ranni, Ofnir, Fia, Leda, Ansbach, Diallos, Dungeater, Millicent, Blaidd, Irina, D, and Ymir
>>712657217>Not liking the saltiest runback in the history of vidya

I don't like Carla, she called me a tourist...
>>712659626They probably won't. The earlier AC games always had you fight in these facilities and tunnel complexes that have fuckhueg corridors for no reason. You'd think the corps would want to stop ACs from going around, killing everything on their properties, but they apparently designed everything for that explicit purpose.

>>712649493I think From realized they dropped the ball with Melina since Ayre shares a ton of similarities (bodyless, aversion to fire, character arc (if you can even call it that in Melina's case) about finding your own convictions, traveling companion that's with you at all times, threatens to fuck you up if you dare to burn everything) except Ayre is just a way more involved and memorable character, those cute waifubait moments where she talks about flowers or pretends to be ALLMIND for the lols are amazing. >>712691405Weren't Zodiac and MoH the same? I swear Moh was the organization and the Zodiac were the specific pilots who challenged AC pilots in the wasteland. That all ended after you destroyed the very last them, 8 and the pilot-turned-AI. And then Rosemary took over them for a good long while before she died.
>>712681223Its the only game I ever platinumed
>>712691032AC6's preset AC design is honestly just kind of bad and Freud is probably the most egregious example of it. None of them are even particularly thematically interesting, just random jumbles of suboptimal parts that don't really synergize together, let alone take advantage of any of the game's mechanics. Where's the Daemon or Exile or Werehound equivalent that abuses some bullshit strategy and makes you rethink your entire build just to beat them?
>>712691548No, Zodiac are the reactivated first of three attempts at replicating and making replicatable skilled AC pilots. Zodiac are the Designed, J is a Cultivater, and the rest of Reaper Squad (along with J by the end) are the third type, the Phantasma Beings.
Zodiac are not working with MoH, in fact a Zodiac member kills the then leader of MoH who is leading them against the Dark Raven in an effort to force him into joining them.
>>712691465Should I just play them in order? I remember getting 4A from a thrift store way back in the day but getting filtered by some of the fights and not really understanding the game.

>>712687429Snail had the Arquebus higher ups send Rusty a job to have you followed and eliminated for entering the lower levels of Watchpoint Alpha. Rusty wasn't told who the target was and Snail used the job as a way of gauging Rusty's loyalties/potentially removing Rusty from the Vespers if he lost.
Notice how in the proceeding mission, Snail doesn't give a fuck if Maeterlinck dies fighting you and remains silent when contacted for emergency support. He was always taking over the Vespers from the start, cleaning house and replacing ranks with characters like Pater.
>>712691114The dub is almost universally better. The JP voices are either much worse than the EN or just OK.
For JP, Walter is pretty good, AllMind is good, Ayre and Honest Brute are good. JP Honest Brute is one of the few who might be better just because it sounds like he's cooming when he's dying which fits his character.
But many are just worse. EN Michigan mogs the fuck out of JP Michigan, and it makes sense because Michigan is an American as fuck character. They should have used EN Michigan in the JP version and given him subtitles. JP Michigan just sounds like "generic old military man" you've heard in a dozen anime. JP Snail isn't terrible, but EN Snail's smug aura is superior.
>>712681223Doubt bing bing wahoo players would care for a mech game, even if it is heavily simplified compared to older AC titles.

So why was the zimmerman so damn good? Even with the patch its arguably the best gun overall in the game. Putting one in each hand melts most shit in the game like butter.
>>712691857No, this is stated outright in cutscenes in the Order Missions, which take place after the main story of V.

the only thing that definitively trumps it in PVP is lammkite, which really just needs to be nerfed into the dirt (no, 5% less effective AP on the most evasive legs in the game by far doesn't fix it)
>final boss is that mook you defeated with relative ease at the start of the game, after coming back to try and get his revenge on you dozens of times

The reason the city map didn't come back is because it was so goddamn demanding the consoles at the time struggled to run V. That's why it was actually disliked, because it had absolutely dogwater framerate, and it's why VD has very open maps.

This game has a real problem with enemy aces being too easy to down. The hardest they are is when there's multiple of them like King/Chartreuse/Raven but a 1-on-1 fight might as well just not exist.
>>712693117>The main story is fine, but trust me dude, the Order Missions are a fucking slog. There's 83 of them and they're all the fucking same.I already told you. I do not mind it at all. I'll play through it all again.
>>712692645I am pretty sure most of them were human pilots (except for Chatty for example) but many of them basically went through reeducation programs (basically tortured) as is the case in regards to the corporation Arquebus. The overall story and lore to this game was actually quite dark and sinister. It does an effective job imo of conveying it despite the lack of any humans on screen emoting or being to put it in a funny way, faggy, to let people know oh yeah you are supposed to have this emotion for this scene here. The whole soullessness of ACVI's world ironically gave this game a ton of soul.
I've never even played the other AC games but I would have to rank this games story very high up there with the thousand games I must have played and beat at this point. I know AC1 has a pretty cool story as well and I do want to play the old games or at least some of them one day.

It's still rough around the edges for something like 5th gen and 4th gen, but the older gens should run just fine.

Daemon for instance only really requires you to know how to make u-turns, and you can also just face roll him with a tank with dual zooks, AC6 enemy ACs are well within the norm.

>>712649493Most of the NPCs in Elden Ring are pussies. There are very few warrior-like NPCs until or before the DLC (which is essentially just a troupe of warriors and Igon because why not) compared to Des+DS.
Comparably, most of the NPCs also either just fuck off (Shabriri, Boc) or die (Millicent, Diallos, Melina, Sellen, the list goes on) crash-out (Corhyn, Jerren, Kenneth) or go insane (also Kenneth, Goldmask), or all of the above (Ensha, Gurranq, D). Or just continue ribbing on you and being a piece of shit kosher fossil like Varre, Tanith, Edgar, or Gideon.
The most sane and normal ones happen to be the ones who haven't taken a shower in months or even years (Nepheli, Bernahl, Hewg), Patches (because continuity reasons), a doll (Ranni), a whore (Fia), or esoteric fuckwits who don't know rhyme or reason (Rogier, Selivus, Enia, Albus).
Surprisingly, the most sane and healthy NPC happens to be a turtle named Miriel. And then of course there's Yura.
I wonder what Miyazaki was trying to tell us through this.

He comes off as kind of a bumbling buffoon at first, but he makes it to some of the in-canon hardest places to reach in the game on his own (albeit unknowingly with the CU's help a few times), and when you come to realize that he's only in Lordran because he's an aging adventurer who feels like he's lost purpose and wants to go on this apparent wild goose chase to try and find meaning in his life again, it hits pretty hard. He's an old man who just wants to feel like he's doing something worthwhile, to the point that he tries to sacrifice himself to save you in a completely inconsequential fight in a shitty poison pit in a shitty hell cave. And if you save him again, he finally comes to terms with the fact that adventuring can't be his life anymore, and he goes hollow because in his view, he has nothing left

>>712705432stop being cringe
>>712705602My take on what they originally intended with Millicent is that she was literally Malenia with amnesia after point blank rot nuking Radahn
You would gradually help her as she tries to remember herself and eventually she would remember who she is, and you would be able to fight her, with dialogue/rewards changing depending on whether you helped her or not and how much or how little
There's a lot of parts of her quest that I feel really only make sense when you consider it from this angle
>>712705602Yeah, after reviewing the blogpost where this gets brought up it's clear that the person who found the cut dialogue didn't realize that Millicent would've been the one referring to the Tarnished as her dearest companion. So it would've been fairly explicit that Millicent and Malenia became one and the same, but that fighting Malenia would only happen after you decide to do something to the Haligtree or Miquella's imprisoned flesh. It must've been cut very early because Miquella is in the cocoon and in Shadow he shows no indication of ever going back to Malenia. Also interesting that he speaks of an Age of Abundance in that early cut dialogue while he speaks of the Age of Compassion in the final DLC.

I can't imagine this happening after you've gone through her entire quest and helped her the whole time. It was always more like she was helping you so that this stray petal of Malenia would return to the main body or something.
>>712668415Another issue is that DS "quests" are rigid and difficult to follow, and the NPCs are completely static. You literally have to reload the area to progress the quest, since nothing can be done in real time.
>>712649493The only good character in Elden Ring was Messmer. It's weird that he's in the same DLC as the retarded shit with Radahn and Miquella. Honestly 6th gen's world setting is interesting because it's an age of space colonization and exploration, they could set games literally anywhere and tell any kind of story they want

I bought this and I'm absolute shit at it. How do I git good?
>>712712925That works every time? Idk, most fights I usually survive with like 50 hpor so. I do upgrade regularly, but fancy style over substance.
>>712673228Liberator is imo the best ending in terms of yourself, considering you keep Ayre happy, you keep your friendship with Rusty, and even Walter accepts your decision by the end of it. Though in terms of long-term thinking, Walter is ultimately right in terms of burning the Coral, and ultimately he saves your life more than once, so you owe him.
>>712718626NTA but a pre-sequel about the Branch group or the Jupiter War (more Michigan/Balam shenanigans) would be pretty cool.
>>712718629Stuck where? I usually replay every third mission or so to get 100% and money.
>>712718762yeah i hope that maybe the expansion that might or might not come out could take place during the Jupiter War.. *inhales strong dose of copium*
>>712718629Armored Core is one part action mech shooter and one part puzzle game where if you get hardstuck, you should probably change your build to meet the needs of the mission.
I don't understand what the fuck coral, rubicon, the PCA, etc are.
I just shoot the things until they stop moving.

>>712692498That guy was the king of the jobbers
>>712673228Frankly, we just don't know enough about the coral for me to make a decision on that. I know it's sapient in a way, but are there individuals? Or is it a hivemind? Ayre seems to be a separate entity, so is it a collection of entities? Are they like the changeling goop pool from DS9? I.e., a collection of individuals who retain individuality but share memories, sensations, emotions etc?
If it's a straight-up hivemind I'm burning it. If it's a bunch of individuals then I don't really have any problem letting them survive.
>>712720652Shit games, too.

>>712721149Replay the mission, also to learn how to dodge and the other mechanics and do find all the treasures and farm money. Start 100% every few missions. >>712722015>a whoteMake us whote?
>>712721305There's a collection of entities, but some are more sentient than others and tend to develop personality once a certain level of critical mass is reached. Dolmayan had a waifu of his own, Seria, and eventually he couldn't take it any more becoming increasingly more horrified since she okayed consumption of her own kind by dosing just to remain with him. She urged him to initiate coral release, but he refused, becoming increasingly more afraid of the notion of human-coral symbiosis.
>>712722260make us whole again
>>712721305Itโs not. Coral is an organic substance that sometimes creates what are scientifically referred to as C-Pulse Wave Mutations. Or rather, Coral-based life. Ayre is one such Coral lifeform. You can identify them in certain cutscenes where you see Coral sparking, like neurons firing.
>>712721563Yeah I definitely need more practice with the mechanics. Thanks for the loadout advice, fren. I'll get there.
>>712722409the mental gymnastics from Ayre fags lmao. bro, coral is a mental parasite and whether benign or not it do does not matter. burn it down.

>>712697082I've already sunk 80 hours into nightreign so I'd probably buy it immediately and enjoy it
>>712722921But Coral wife...
>>712722921Coral, the substance, is a proven hallucinogenic that is known to be toxic to humans unless carefully dosed. Making Contact the way 621 and Ayre do requires being a Gen 1-4 Augmented Human, the closest thing without is what Dolmayan and Walter undergo, which gives glimpses and a vague awareness but no communication the way 621 and Ayre have. Unless every human being affected by Coral Release also spontaneously makes them Augmented Humans, they won't experience what 621 and Ayre did. At worst, it'll scatter their consciousnesses in the Coral flow as nearly happens to 621. At best? It will allow a wholly innocent species that humanity has unknowingly massacred and exploited to finally coexist with humanity.
Will it be one or the other? We don't know. What it will entail, we can't know. But the die is cast. Maybe it will be a better solution. Maybe.

>>712724105Short answer, space feds.
Long answer, a military force set up following the Fires of Ibis to close off Rubicon III to ensure it didn't happen again and, when Coral began to reemerge, conceal its existence to ensure that nobody comes running to exploit it.

>>712732861Man, FromSoft is such a workhorse. Them and Capcom are probably the only AAA studios that are still churning out games annually.
I recently finished AC6 (3 times), honestly I wasn't a fan of the stagger system as it heavily encouraged weapons that could deal heavy burst damage. I tried get as far as possible with the default loadout and had to finally geve up and properly find out what worked at raven.
