What is happening with the trend of putting open world to any game?

This. Hopefully the pendulum is swinging back with games like BG3 and E33 and people are just fed up with bigger, shitter studios.

Open worlds are an objective improvement. The only reason /v/ doesn't like them is because it's becoming ubiquitous. Ten years ago /v/ was whining incessantly about video games all being "linear corridors". Now that they are not anymore /v/ is whining incessantly about how they're not linear corridors. You're all whiny little bitches that whine about everything.

But if the content takes place on soccer fields, what's everything else for? Is playing soccer the fun part, or walking from one soccer field to another?

I don't understand how you can make a sports game open world. What do you do? Play your game then have to walk home lmao?

If it was an open world baseball game set in Japan you'd probably be creaming your pants.

I think up about it maybe it would be cool if it's like Bully where the open world is set on a football academy or even better if it's basically a high budget Inazuma Eleven-like story mode.

>what's everything else for?
local improvised matches like on the empty parking lot
bars and shit for post-match meetups
yeah obviously a 1:1 irl copy is a stretch but like having some central hub

Let me guess, you play as a favela monkey playing against other monkeys until Real Mad hires you so now you can cry about racism since you're in Europe

I think 2K's "success" with NBA2k vs Madden specifically, so the American market, has prompted hub world creation in EA games. WWE, not-FIFA, supposedly Madden as well.

You already have a market for bullshit card packs with Ultimate Team, and instead of working on things people who aren't braindead retards want (like realistic contracts, non shit association/franchise modes that don't collapse in 5 years because of AI, positions being so out of date compared to modern football) they'd rather spend what little effort they do from year to year to make better Skinner boxes to get money out of their player base.

It's fine for people that want it, but don't buy an exclusive license for simulation sports with all the arcade shit you want people to spend money on.
