I'm curious what they'll do with DQ1. DQ1(nes) is just a pure grinding game from start to finish. I think they should add new optional quests for gold and equipment since half the reason why you need to grind is for gold so you can buy the latest equipment to survive the next areas .

DQ2 is actually a really amazing game that stands on its own. I liked how open the game was, it was ahead of its time. I don't think they need to do too much to make a compelling game for newcomers.

I finished the first one and, to be honest, I don't even see it as an RPG. It's more like an adventure game. You are placed in the world without any guidance and you have to learn what to do, which items to use in each situation, etc., based on your exploration and hints from NPCs. At this point, the game isn't that bad. For example, you'll get a better idea of your quest if you enter the cave north of the first town with torches until you find the tomb there with some items. But you can totally ignore that and just walk around and try to figure out what you have to do in other ways.
The RPG elements are so simplistic that I don't even know if they deserve any consideration.
