I liked how simplistic it was, it's a very comfy game and allowed me to fuck around with the favorite monsters way more than you usually do in other SMT games. My main gripe is with Raidou 2 making you refight some bosses a million times.

I barely remember anything about the game other than the fact it was insanely comfy and had a fantastic atmosphere. I emulated it almost 14 years ago. Certainly going to play it.

DDS is easier but its more tedious than nocturne, Its basically Final Fantasy: SMT edition, you have a fixed party and you have to grind hard in that game to unlock new spells in a skill & perks tree for them, no fusing demons or negotiating with them, you just kill and eat them really, gameplay is generally the same but the protags can switch from humans to demons in battle. Also the encounter rate is like hilariously high.

Not really. Atlus (and the rest of Japan) sees Amabie as a covid related thing. She was draw solely to jump on the meme of reposting her everywhere online because according to her myth seeing her can make the viewer feel cured of any disease. SMTV is their covid game so they wanted to put her in.

I dunno if I'll buy it, it looks interesting but the combat looks pretty bad. I heard the original was even worse but that doesn't really matter when both look mechanically vapid if it's some real time combat hybrid. The most will probably be good and the protagonist seems cool, the world and story will probably be the most interesting parts but I don't think a story game is worth full price. Also I don't really like new atlus, the only thing of value new atlus has made is SMTVV. Remakes are cash grabs, Metaphor is a pretty mediocre game and Soul Hackers 2 is a bad game. I really only care about vanilla ware at this point. Atlus seems to focused on westerners to the point of losing their original flare that made them Japanese. Persona 4 Remake further just digs the grave of creative bankruptcy and nostalgia pandering for a quick buck.

I honestly don't think this needs a remaster. What would you even do other than touch up the graphics (and likely ruin the aesthetic/atmosphere in doing so)? With Nocturne there were some benefits like manual skill inheritance, but I can't think of any similar QoL I'd like to see in DDS. Menuing got a little annoying I guess, something to make it easier to flip around through skills would be nice.

My favorites ended up being Devil Survivor 1 and 2 remakes (these games even beat out FFT and TO:LUCT to me), although I really enjoy Strange Journey, SMT 2, and 4A in particular too.
Once you know the demons it's pretty fun to play lots of games with different settings and stories but similar themes and returning collectable and fusible demons.

Switch 2 can actually play at 60 fps and has better resolution. Switch 1 is 30 fps and they even say there may be drops lower than that at times.

You are correct in that it was completely stupid and useless padding to make solving cases more "interesting" but I'm pretty sure they removed that since it wasn't in Raidou 2 and they're absolutely learning from all the mistakes they made before. It's the reason they reworked the entire combat system to be more like 2's.

If that were true Raidou would stay permadead. The entire game is reminiscent of Japanese occupation of Korea, even down to Raidou's uniform. But Korean players and the government suddenly no longer care. I have seen zero complaints about the flags from either side. So you're actually trying to make this into more than what it is.
