Did some code mumbo-jumbo today, and I'm still struggling to tie together "good" coding practices with "actually working" coding practices.
Is Decoupling a meme? If I have a few classes that are ALWAYS going to exist in tandem (like playerequipment and playerstats), is there a reason to connect them via events, or do I just do it like an animal and make them directly call each other in relevant places?
Also what's a good way to design additional effects? Say for example, I have a piece of equipment that makes Fireball shoot out 3 balls instead of 1, or makes the fireball set things on fire. How would you go around coding that?
My current idea is array of effects + calling events, e.g.

I've got a transparent object I want to "project" an image on the backside of, while also being able to move said image around the surface of said object via code, maybe by controlling some kind of offset value
The image also needs to experience minimal distortion from the weird low poly UV's.

I started remaking the whole game in orthogonal isometric 3D, a lot of code carries over from 2D but some needs to be remade, also I'm having a lot of fun mapping with trenchbroom and I discovered blockbench today and I've been churning out 3D models with placeholder textures, it's been really fun, more than when I previously worked with sprites and tilesets

Finding an artist would be great, but I'd really want them to just handle art direction of the game entirely, which needs help in general. And of course the NPC's would be part of that. But for now, the 'jacks work for making NPC's noticeable at a glance (I hope)

Godot bros, if your camera clips even with a springarm, make sure to always make all operations under _physics_process() and not _process(), and never operate the camera via tweens since those run like the normal process method.

I feel like the scaling should be far more aggressive, I had way more cash than I knew what to do with and could just brute force the bet, which made all the other mechanics pointless. It did get pretty close to capturing the fun of making insanely overpowered combos that make these sort of roguelikes fun, I'd just focus more on making each round longer with maybe some sort of challenges that need to be overcome. I think the problem is that craps is a game where the odds are very close to even, so there needs to be a strong counterbalance to the fact that shifting the odds slightly in the player's favor will inevitably lead to them winning.

I've been writing the plot structure for my game, and I'm reaching the point where I can no longer ignore the elephant in the room.
I do not know whether or not the player character should be a self-insert for the player themselves, or if they should be their own character. The game does have some VN/Relationship mechanics, but they are not the only focus. The game will also feature some voice acting (eventually), so trying to tiptoe around a self-insert without having some nickname forced onto the player character sounds like it'll be a headache.
I don't know. Maybe this is just me being stubborn and not wanting to come up with something for the MC that ends up shitty. I don't want to mess up the most important character. I guess it just boils down to either going on an adventure and living an adventure through a character to me, which is why it's been bothering me so long.
Sorry if this sound bloggy. I guess I'm just curious if any other dev here has had a dilemma like this.

They designed/made the outdoors of the castle you first load into and NOTHING else, spending just months of fine tuning walking, running, climbing, swimming, jumping, etc till it felt good and fun.
make one (1) level with all the materials and objects your player will interact with and just play it day after day till it feels good and enjoyable on its own.
No treasure chests to open. No enemies to kill. No loot to snatch.
Just refine your core mechanics/movement.
