I always kinda knew that Captain was unlikely to be playable given his design. He really just doesn't seem to fit the general mold of the playable characters, because all the playable characters use the same skeletons and have very similar heights. I mean there's obviously some variance, Ei isn't the same height as Miko, Diluc isn't the exact same height as Alhaitham. But from the moment I saw the Captain, I always knew that he was unlikely to be playable.

But I was at least hoping for a boss fight. I think it's complete fucking bullshit that the #1 Harbinger isn't a boss fight. What the fuck is the point of having eleven of these fuckers when we only get to fight four of them? Fuck Tartaglia, I wanted a cool duel with the Captain.

When I was playing through the game I was talking with some of my friends who had played Genshin on launch (people who assured me that limited time events didn't have anything story relevant), and after I told them that I was really out of loop after new main story update, they actually got excited after I gave them gist of what it was about.

Near as I can tell, they changed their mind about how relevant Durin would be at some point. Before, he was just setdressing. But now, they actually decided to make the stuff surrounding it kinda important.

Even then, though, Durin by his general setting, isn't really going to be important to the overarching story. It's more of a B-plot. While it's true that he was created by Gold and unleashed during the big cataclysm 500 years ago, he's just some mid-boss, largely irrelevant to the greater going-ons involving Celestia, Khaenri'ah, the Abyss Order and the Fatui.

I get that it's not all that important in grand scheme of things, but I'm still unreasonably annoyed by the whole thing.
I do actually like the setting of the game, story and characters... And I assumed that the events were like that fishing thing in Fontaine, or the advert making event, since they were the ones that were up when I started the game. Something fun, but definitely not story relevant.
But now after playing a bit, I do feel pretty annoyed that so many of the events with actual proper character events are just gone forever.
"Whirling Waltz" and "Tournament of Glory in Bloom" were both fun with nice character interactions. Also fuck that one friend who told me that it was fine if I missed the Tournament, since it actually introduced Ica, and had good moments with rest of Natlan cast too I'm glad I marathoned the story so I could do that with full context.
...Anyway, I'd like at least stuff like that to be archived.

The Mini-Durin was a character from a previous event. But that Mini-Durin just sort of came out of nowhere. That entire event was basically "Everyone got sucked into a magic storybook created by a witch and Mini-Durin was a fictional version of the real Durin that wanted to become a real boy".
