Let's hear them.

>Watch Dogs 1 was a diamond in the rough like Asscreed 1, and deserved a WD2 that actually stuck to its guns and perfected the formula
>Dragons Dogma 2 is fun, you all just dreamt up a game in your heads that couldn't exist and fell for marketing hype
>PlayStation has never done me wrong, I've loved them all even PS5, you used to buy a PlayStation for exclusives, now you buy a PlayStation to play every game that matters Day 1 for $400 once every 6-8 years

True. And it's not an uncommon problem that players "liked the wrong thing" and the dev makes a sequel to spite fans of the first game.

>'being fun' is a low bar for a $70 game
I bought it at $70 because I buy 1 game at $70 once every few years, otherwise I pay $10 when games go on sale years after release. I would've bought DD2 for $70 even if it was a certified 1/10 because it was just one of those games where I had to play it for myself. Personally I don't think the best games I've ever played are worth more than $20 to anyone. So I just judge DD2 off how much fun I had with it and I had 120+ hours of fun and plan to replay it in the near future, still holding off to see if DLC drops or not.

In comparison to DD1, to me it's more like a reimagining than a remake or a sequel. It does some things way better, some things way worse. Neither game invalidates the other, they both have reasons to reply them.

The tedious bits of Dark Souls 1 greatly enhanced the experience and the series suffered heavily from boss bonfires, checkpoints outside of the door, fast travel from the start, and being able to increase your base estus (I didn't particularly enjoy this even in dark souls 1, 5 felt perfect). This also lead to a ton of terrible design decisions when removed/ 'solved' by the devs.

If companies REALLY wanted to prevent piracy, then they would have continued creating physical games, but they didn't which means they don't care about piracy.

>Watch Dogs 1:
A really big step up in terms of character animations, Aiden would be blown over if he was near car explosions and there were so many melee-range gun-kata kills depending on your positioning, even now it puts a lot of games to shame in sheer natural fluidity and just making the player FEEL like "oh shit, I'm a person with weight and mass and I'm throwing it around this environment". Not to mention things like the convoy side missions, the whole hacking gimmick, it's really a game that tried to push the boundaries in a lot of ways and deserved a more polished sequel.

PlayStation:
I mean yea, PS1 was a success because of it's 3rd party exclusives. Nintendo pissed everyone off, they all ran off to PlayStation. This continued and peaked with the PS2. PS3 and PS4 were about experimenting with digital and HD and laid the groundwork for the PS5. The PS5 costs you next to nothing, plays all the latest games, has huge backwards compatibility support for PS1-PS4 games (and yeah, it's nowhere near complete and has glaring missing games/series) but FUCK ME MAN, for what you pay for a PS5 and what you get NOTHING else on the market can compete with that.

Sure, your PC runs everything at 200fps and 8k, it also costs 5x as much as a PS5 and your parts won't last you 8+ years like the PS5 will be supported for. The PS4 is STILL getting games and that came out in fucking 2014.

I beat the 3 dreamers and the Hollow Knight after 60 ish hours on PS4. It just meanders and loses its urgency after a while. I like the music, the Mantis Lords fight theme in particular, but every time I try to replay HK I get pissed and feel like I'm wasting my time. Would much rather play something like Metroid Dread, Super Metroid, Blasphemous, or a pre-2013 Tomb Raider title.

Gorb and the Dung Defender were kind of cool.

It HAS to be at least unoffensively bad, like FFXV that has bad gameplay but gives you a DLC weapon that lets you one-hit-kill 99% of enemies and speedrun through the game to enjoy the good bits like the music and character interactions and all that other stuff.

I think the 7th gen is remembered so poorly primarily because the jump to HD dropped framerates back to N64 levels. The advent of remasters and remakes and even just emulation makes me look a lot more kindly on these kinds of games now that they run at a playable framerate.

True. I own a PS5, Switch 1 and gaming PC. I just prefer my PS5 by and large, that's just what I gravitate to. I grew up on Nintendo, so it's not like I'm a fanboy, they all have their pros and cons. But the seething hatred you see on /v/ this last decade especially is almost 1:1 with the spread of internet and smart phones in 3rd world nations.

GTA is shit and Rockstar has made 1 good game (Midnight Club Street Racing). They are easily the most overrated developer ever.
Super Paper Mario is a great game
Mario 64 is great except for the camera and controls which make it unplayable.
The Horizon games are fun.
DMC3 is the only worthwhile game in the series.
Fallen Order/Survivor is the only good rollslop
I don't care if games are woke as long as they're fun and well made/written.

Did you just mainline the main story or do any side stuff? The writing beat to beat very rarely blows me away but watching the credits roll I felt like "Y'know what, that was some good fucking shit". One thing I'll give huge props to is the open world design/visuals/aesthetics. A LOT of effort went into that city, you can just tell, people actually cared and tried to make it feel like a real place and not just some procedurally generated slop expected to be there.

As far as I feel, most people didn't deny it was fun, but that it suffered the exact same fate of DD1, being woefully incomplete and blueballing the fuck out of you in a few ways.
The reason it failed to become a cult classic like DD1 however, is that its incompleteness was worse, with fewer vocations, a truly dogshit story with few threads getting a satisfactory ending, and a repeat of the monster variety and spawn.

I will not talk about loot because DD1 was the same pre dark arisen.
Its like Capcom built the most solid and majestic building foundation for the greatest tower in the world, then said yeah job done see ya

The DLC is a big step up in terms of polish and expanding on the concept so I have humble hopes for Cyberpunk 2, they admitted their ego went to their heads after Witcher 3 and they're knuckling down again to put out a great game. But we'll see I guess.

If you ever have a spare evening, just hop on a bike or even have a walk around Night City and look for the little things, it's worth your time just to go "ohhh that's cool" at all the shit they didn't have to put in but did.

not too sure about that, especially since you mentioned the:
>flow of AC1
I'll elaborate on this
the sandboxy structure got tossed out of the window with 2
in 2 you have a very linear sequence of guided missions and you never need to interact with the block of side objectives if you don't want to
compare this to the pick-and-choose your missions system in 1 during intel gathering, where you can decide what's optional outside the targets
I valued that kind of freedom, where I can play these 3 fun objectives, or rush these 3 quick and easy ones, or do all of them in the district, and then take on the target however I want, not to mention not having a failstate saying DESYNCHRONIZED NIGGA FOR ARBITRARY REASON LEL
playthroughs of 1 can be very different, compared to playthroughs of 2 where events are almost always the same, differentiated only by deciding to do some optional shit
economy system and shops are pure bloat too, adds nothing to the assassin sim aspect
social stealth got dumbed down to nonsense level, you can just hide among any 4 random people and blend in
melee combat got a downgrade, can feel it especially when fighting elites and how they deflect every attack, having you rely on counters as your main offense after those guys are introduced

tombs, new tools and new assassination moves are nice tho, I give ac2 those as good additions, and I liked Italy, especially the green fields and towers of Toscana
but nah they went for more story linearity instead of more sandbox, and doubled down on it with brohood introducting 100% synch criteria, then reaching fuck you levels of no player expression with ac3's multiple 100% synch objectives

This is a gigantic cope, not having exclusives makes it useless when a PC has more games and runs them all better.
Yeah it's like $1000 more but like you said, once every 6-8 years it's absolutely nothing money, which is saved anyway by the games being cheaper and not paying for online. It just doesn't make any sense to buy a something like the PS5, much less the PS5 Pro.

That's because they don't need to, what they need to know is what makes their games sell, unfortunately. Most American developers have no idea how to make a good game, but they can put together some UE5 assets and make a generic open world slop that will sell a few millions, and at the end of the day that's all that matters.

Yeah but a PC costs 3x-5x more, doesn't get the games Day 1, often gets shitty ports etc.

Like in a perfect world where you have infinity money and no responsibilities yeah PC is the objective best choice, but in real terms if you drop $400 on a PS5 you can essentially turn your brain off and just enjoy video games for the next decade. A PC is the best possible experience, but a PS5 is the closest thing yet to a PC and it's pretty much just plug'n'play.

Nearly every post-processing effect can improve the graphics of a game.
>chromatic aberration
If used sparingly, in certain situations, it looks good. Like how in Crysis it only activates when your suit feels power fluctuations or alien signatures nearby. It's a good active effect. Of course if a game just passively aberrates everything nonstop then yeah turn that shit off.
>film grain
Certain games have an artstyle or textures that can result in a plasticky look that lacks grit. Film grain can offset this in the correct amounts.
>motion blur
Per object motion blur is great. It's exactly how we percieve fast moving objects near us IRL. However heavy constant camera motion blur is an acquired taste and I'd rarely ever use it.
>vignette
Sometimes the visual presentation is just more pleasing and easy on the eyes if the the barrier between screen and monitor bezel is gradual instead of sudden. Vignette used as an effect can also be cool, like adding a red haze around the edges of the screen when you're under the effect of a red powerup.

People love to just turn all of this off because they feel like it's getting in the way of the game simulation. But there are games when having post-processing effects on is the intended look, and you get something flat-looking without them.

Neverwinter Nights > Baldur's Gate.
Oblivion is the best Elder Scrolls.
Victoria Revolutions is one of Paradox's best games.
The Nancy Drew games are fun and worth playing.
People who argue about Fallout 3 vs New Vegas are stupid and should play Tale of Two Wastelands. In fact everyone should play Tale of Two Wastelands instead of the original games.
The God of War series was never good, the action was repetitive button mashing and the story was full of eye rollingly edgy dogshit and soap opera tier bathos.
The original Last of Us is the best zombie movie of all time. I say this without insult, there's a 6 hour edit with gameplay and cutscenes on youtube and it's genuinely a great watch.
Advance Wars > Fire Emblem
Fallout 4 and Skyrim are boring.
The only good ending of Catherine is the one where Vincent becomes king of hell.
Greg Bear's Forerunner trilogy is the best thing to come out of Halo.
KOTOR and Matthew Stover's Revenge of the Sith novelization are the best things to come out of Star Wars, the movies are pretty trash and most of the popularity of the series comes from nostalgia.
Mass Effect is the most overrated scifi game series of all time.
MGS3 is the best Metal Gear.
Night In The Woods could've been a decent VN, just get rid of the annoying gay friends and boomer cult.
RE4 is the best Resident Evil.
Dead Space 2's story is as stupid as any hollywood blockbuster and Isaac acts like a retarded action hero. The gameplay is great but all three games are fun to play, the problem is the story goes seriously off the rails starting with DS2 and DS3 just builds on the stupidity.

The sound design, music, and levels especially Matrix 11, make the game fun to play. The enemy encounters and types also constantly vary and even similar looking enemies progressively get newer moves so fights never get stale. Such a shame that discourse of this game got buried by coom posting. Well at least that doesnt take away my personal enjoyment of it.

>mass effect the most overrated
Considering there's a severe lack of story heavy Sci fi games, I'll take it
>dead space 2
Iirc, didn't the devs say that the mystery was kinda gone after the first so they kinda just went FUCK IT with 2 and 3? Remember hearing somewhere or maybe memory is fucking with me

Having exclusives matters little to me when it comes to buying a console or not.
In fact, it was not something I ever gave much thought before coming to this forsaken shithole.

>Furukawa is the blight on Nintendo, everything since 2020 has been dumbed down, soulless products that market to kids and tendies who will buy anything.
Came to say something along these lines.

The coom posting honestly makes me not want to try it. Same shit with the new vindictus which is a shame since I enjoyed it when it was just lann, Fiona, and evie.

Based. Game developers are far too afraid to ever inconvenience players now and it makes every game feel boring.

I completely agree. Worrying about a nearly broken weapon while stranded down some fucking cursed sleus drain was THE dark souls experience. Itโ€™s not a great journey if you can quick warp back to the starting zone with no grief.

Similarly, the roll counter duel style bosses should never have been the majority of encounters. Give me more weird flaily monsters, puzzle enemies, creatures. It robs the significance of battling an equal if every single encounter is a ninja flipping sword duelist.

Nightreign is better than Elden Ring because it trims the open world fat and focuses on the only thing that matters, the gameplay.

he's one of the greatest video game antagonists of all time and the Ulysses/Elijah arc across the DLCs elevates New Vegas from a 10/10 to an 11/10

It's really annoying because not only does it become bait threads, it actively drowns out posts about people actually wanting to talk about the game and you know how /v/ operates.

If a game needs more than 2 buttons to play, it's shit. If it uses more than 2 buttons that's ok, but if it cannot be simplified to a 2 button control scheme without ruining the game then the game is shit.

Movement and even camera controls are excluded. Feel free to have twin stick controls, start/select/home, etc. but if you need more than 2 action buttons it's shit. Four face buttons + four triggers + L3/R3 + back paddles is atrocious.

That would limit games really hard, in fact I think there are barely any games made since 1990's that don't use more than 2 buttons
