The emulated games are just a bonus. The gameboy selection is fantastic, and the SNES selection, while obviously limited, does have some of the best games on the platform in there. NES selection is pretty lame. It contains games like Ninja Gaiden, one of the best games ever made (not 2 or 3 of course, that's asking too much), but then also a whole lot of nothing.

I find it difficult to imagine that there is an audience of people who are actually interested in playing old-ass games but are somehow not willing to emulate, but clearly the audience must exist for Ninty to be able to make money off the expansion pass.

you are beholden to the selection nintendo has available for you, so it's worse than emulating by yourself. but if you're lazy it's not the worst thing in the world.

I know this is going to sound like a foreign concept to the modern westoid, but it's a honor thing.
One of the primary excuses piratefags had is "but why I can't give devs money for these out of print games?" and NSO solves this problem.
It is actually, unironically, largely about both convenience and simply wanting to give nintendo some money over those old games.

But NSO doesn't let us keep the games. They're permanent rentals. It was legitimately better to buy the sega megadrive collection on steam, so you could rip the roms and enjoy them without a subscription service. Once you take them out of the folder, steam is no longer required for them.

Gotta tell you, those 50 sega games were the best 10 dollars I ever spent.

There's a lot of stuff offered in the sub and the price is very low, so I personally think it's a great deal for how much you get. Regarding the claddic games and music, a lot of people will say that you could just emulate on your PC or listen to Nintendo music elsewhere and that is absolutely true but personally I like that Nintendo is making this stuff easily available through official channels and I want to reward that kind of behavior.

If you aren't interested in the other features than maybe it is just better to emulate on your PC and find music elsewhere, but I personally like it due to my specific use cases.

I don't get this argument either. Who still has their rons that they bought on the Wii? I'd rather pay a few bucks and get access to a full library of 300+ games (Current situation) than buy a bunch of roms for $5-$10 each (and probably more for later stuff). If I really wanted to keep the roms than I would just grab them online and put them in an archive.

The anon who mentioned the Sega collection on Steam (now removed) had a decent point, but you could have just downloaded those roms online anyway so there's no point unless you specifically want to be able to aquire the roms through an official means (which is/was great, but Sega removed it now).

Paying for online is a scam and trying to sweeten the deal with nostalgia is scummy. Nintendo's online service is 20 years behind competition and the only reason it took them so long to implement it is because they were too retarded to know how on a technical level.

i wanted to download them through official means and support the company for making them available. That was why I resorted to piracy in the first place. If you actually just let me straight up buy the roms, of course I'll reward that with my money.

If NSO operated like a virtual console, and you could keep playing the games regardless of whether you kept paying for the service, then I'd fully support it.

What exactly was wrong with the virtual console? There's really no reason why your library can't carry over to the next generation of hardware. I still have some PS1 classics I bought to play on PSP back in the day, and can still play them on my PS4. Had it been a weird PS+ thing I'd be fucked. Why couldn't I have bought the Super Metroid rom on Switch and play it on Switch 3 without having to worry about another subscription service? My switch is gathering dust for months at time I don't even remember the last time I had NSO I don't need this shit to play TotK

I just don't see the point. Everyone knows you can download the games for free, so there's no point in trying to sell them. Selling a service would at least provide something that consumers don't already have for free. If I just want to have the games for archival than I'll download a rom set and back it up.
>>712703393
>Sucks compared to other subscriptions because on xbox and playstation you get modern games while the nintendo subscription only gives you classic games
Modern games suck though
>>712703703
>What exactly was wrong with the virtual console?
I just think that a lot of games will go largely unplayed because of the price. For example if there's 50 NES games available than that's $250 just to get access to them all, but on NSO you could get access to them all for less than the price of one NES game on the Wii (plus other stuff). If it was just about ownership than I'd archive romsets (actually, I already do) so there's no reason to buy individual roms, but I can justify NSO because of other stuff that's included. That doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with the virtual console model, I just don't think it's the best from a preservation standpoint. But if companies want to sell their old roms on the eShop than they can do that, and many companies already do like Capcom, Konami, and Sega.
>can still play them on my PS4
Since when? I've only used my PS4 as a blu-ray player since like... 2016, but I remember having to play those in Vita because PS4 couldn't do it.

They'll be patched but NES, SNES, Gensis, GB and GBA are busted on Switch 2. They render at 720p in handheld and upscales to 1080p with a bilinear filter. Try running your emulator full-screen at sub-native resolution to your monitor. It looks atrocious, like DS games played on the 3DS.
Otherwise it's good, and IMO the curated selection incentivizes you to play games as they release, and the sorting system helps you put your favorites on a pedestal, and I find myself playing this more often than just downloading roms on a computer.
Dolphin is wayyyy better than GC NSO though. Thankfully there's never any stutter or audio-crackling on NSO, but there's a really bad response-lag making games feel wobbly and sluggish to control, and it's making me dislike replaying Wind Waker so far.

That is a very good point and I do agree; but imo the subscription is nice because people will be more likely to try games they've never played before because they don't have to put more money up just to play them and I think that's especially great for introducing these old games to younger gamers.

>wide compatibility for a wide array of system specs, even most modern integrated-graphics-cards-only PCs can run most of the PS2/GC library natively
>multiple free emulation solutions available both for Windows and for Linux/Mac, to the point of having several bootable solutions to return retard-proof GUIs for vidya browsing, once you set it up
>emulation programs approachable both for those who tinker around with settings and those who just want to start as soon as possible, both with standalone applications as well as frontend solutions
>loads of added features to the games on the go from cheats to bezel overlay customization, with support for select games/systems in form of graphical enhancements of sorts (widescreen hacks for 4:3-aspect-ratio games) and dedicated mods of all kinds
>ready to go on whatever system once you set it all up, no fear to lose it with later PCs if you hold onto your files properly
The list goes on. Most you're getting from commercial software emulation solutions these days are save states, rewind and "save states" like NSO does. That is, until the emulation medium is deemed obsolete and trashed away one or a few gens later.

You can even mod your Switch if you put onto it and put some of that shit there. You can even install some of the frontends to use there like Batocera and the likes. You're fucked if you have a Switch Lite, but most of the earlier old models (and a few of the OLED ones) allow modding without messing with the hardware further than a metal clip being lodged in there.
Look it up if you really care, but if you walk that way don't forget to spoof your Internet connection with the right programs while using those or else you'll brick yourself.

To me it's a hard pass because i'm a nut about this stuff and i have all the consoles they offer. I have a Gamecube with Game Boy Player and 2 Everdrives (one for GB/GBC and another for GBA games), i have an N64 (hdmi modded, amazing image) with all the games they offer (except shit like Winback), i have a SNES (using scart cable to hdmi) with an evedrive and all, as for NES i don't really care about 99% of the games in that system.

The only reason i paid for NSO was because i was playing Smash 5 for a long time after i bought my Switch 1, but the game is boring af now so i don't even get a new subscription.

Wind Waker is better than every game released this year. And that's just one game on NSO.

Why do 3rd poorfag PC virgins think everyone need to live the same degenerate lifestyle as them? And are then baffled when nobody wants to?

I recently played Streets Of Rage with my 7 year old son. It's nice introducing him to the games I played growing up and educating him about the hobby while bonding with him.

Imagine your world

>s-s-sit down son. Pull a chair up to the desk! We're gonna play some rooms
>just let me download the rom, it won't take a minute... heh heh, how's school?
>ah OK, let me extract this and add it to my roms folder
>just gonna launch the emulator now...
>ah OK, shucks. I just need to map the controls to your joypad
>Why won't think sync??!
>w-wait... come back... it'll just take me a few minutes!!! You'll love this!!!

Its alright, get the family plan from a key site then sell the other slots on ebay and you can easily get more money back than it costs

It's fine. I wish they threw a couple more DLCs into the expansion pack though.
Like roughly 1 DLC a year would justify keeping it over the base pack for me.

It got patched. The emulation is a lot better now compared to launch and they finally added in a CRT filter, rewinding and per-game button remapping.

If it makes you feel better emufags don't actually play video games. They just download 100 of them, play the one they played as a kid, and then go to a 4chan thread or something.

Nintendo hinted at it when they announced GC, maybe it was Bowser. Saying they're "aware" of demand of physical or whatever. WW is one of those games that's pretty tedious to play the original too

Ironic coming from a switch vegan that can't stop talking about the switch as if it's the second coming of christ when even fucking phonefags have been playing fzero gx on their phones during the past decade

Why?

>FOR FREE
I never said that. I dumped my legally owned copy of the game. It's pretty retarded to pay a subscription just to play games that you already own. Only mentally ill tendies would do such a thing
Anonymous No.712718850 [Report]
It's nice, but overpriced, and game additions are too slow.

It should be maximizing the catalogs of these systems, but they do like 3 game every 4-6 months.
There's tons of cool niche gamecube stuff that would be absolutely worth it, but licensing and the slow pace means we're never gonna get there.

Imagine we got to play Doshin the Giant on it, or chibi robo.
