Apparently because it seems dodging in this game is actually the game's parrying in terms of tightness. Like you know how in dark souls, parrying needs to happen as you're about to get hit? It's the same here but for dodging. Otherwise, the game has such tight hitboxes that what is probably happening is that Eve is dodging straight into enemy attacks. So basically dodging is useless for melee unless you time it perfectly to activate the iframes.

There's three endings and NG, NG+ and NG++ along with unlockable hard mode. If you want to 100% everything its like 4 play-throughs.
NG for the bad and normal ending as they can be done on the same play-through, NG+ for the golden ending and NG+ outfits, NG++ for the NG++ outfits, and yet another run of NG++ because you need to get to the optional golden ending area three times to unlock every single outfit. If you're a steam achievement fag you'll just need to do 2 play-throughs

Emil is a random encounter that you need to stop in order to buy the nier outfits, but those cost stellar tears that you need to find all over the map. Scarlet and Volt are found near the south west part of the map and will give you the nikke dlc missions.

I have been using the starter outfit, and I like it quite a lot. But man, this gang has so many outfits and they all look terrific so far. I did not expect a game developer to add this many, and getting outfits as rewards for a lot of the side objectives has helped motivate me into doing them, because the reward, at least for me, is worth it. Since it's not only just a few more "resources" for leveling up skills or upgrading equipment.

As a main character I think she's fine. She's barely above the average gacha protag. I do think the issue comes with how the story is presented. There's very little opportunity for Eve to show say cockiness and smug like say Dante or Bayo when Eve so far has just been accepting quests and doing her duties killing Naytiba that comes her way.
It just doesn't have that cuhrayzy energy that these other games have. The enemies are also mostly monsters so there's no snarky back and forth between the bosses like say Raiden and the Winds of Destruction in MGR.

It's less about what engine they use and more about how they optimize the games. Tons of modern devs just throw unoptimized assets and effects into an area of the game and call it a day. SH2 remake is a perfect example of that, it has tons of stuff being rendered at full detail even though it's obscured by the fog, or has effects with ridiculous amounts of particles that increase frametimes like crazy while not even making the effect look more detailed.

Playing this game on Hard using the mod that allows you to start fresh on hard right away and damn. It's actually hard. I just killed Abaddon and I literally had to use all my ressources, my estus, my 3 HoT pots and my 2 first aid kits + 2 EMP nades. That 2nd phase doesn't mess around.

Something pointed out was the game's soundtrack has a lot of electronic, rock and pop music, even for many bosses, and saves the huge choral orchestral tracks for a few very specific bosses. Makes it feel a lot more special and impactful when the opera song appears for Democrawler or the grand apocalyptic sounding track for Elder Naytiba. Rather than every single boss having the epic orchestral style.

The artbook is really pretty and has a TON of content but I wish they added more stuff for the NPCs, some like Kaya and Mother Sphere only got one page with just a single art piece
