I replayed the whole thing recently now that I have some more experience with literature, visual novels and writing and such. It was fine. All the routes were a bit amateurish (except Rin, I still think Rin's route holds up well) except Shizune's route, now that was really shit.

Most of the plot wasn't that different except for the end where Misha fucking kills herself in a car accident and then Shizune goes to the hospital to starve herself. If you get the good ending, she doesn't go through with it. It's also revealed Shizune could read lips the entire time which is actually hinted at in act 1 if you know where to look.

I think it was mostly just the focus and pacing that was different, the final version feels a lot more SOL. Wasn't as interesting as the other routes, not as focused. But again I played the beta ages ago so this is off the top of my head.

Iirc, the author ended up hating her because he got assblasted that people only knew him from writing Hanako's route, and kept pestering him to write more Hanako stuff, etc. so he made that as a fuck you to the fans while claiming it was about "moving on" from things, since when Hisao wakes up in the morning she had already fucked off and he was just totally okay with that because he had 'grown up and matured'.
