I can't get comfy with my Switch 2 until I finally 100% F-Zero GX by unlocking all chars and stages, and I'm getting cockblocked by Save Jody on very hard.

Mario Kart World is kind of a fascinating view into the modern gamer for me.

I love getting a reward for very specific/difficult challenges as much as the next person, but the fact one of the biggest complaints I've seen about MKW is how you don't get rewarded for going out of your way to do the extreme completionist stuff is telling.

So many people saying "the open world is fun and finding things is fun but I wish there was a bigger reward at the end" when the whole point of the open world is to be a novel low-stakes way to engage with the gameplay either on your own time or between races.

Sometimes stuff can just be fun and doesn't need an end goal or progression.

Finished zelda totk the other day, the chinese instruments and the dragons really set the tone don't they?

I've just started Bravely Default today. Not far in, but seems like it could be a fun game. I've put over 20 hours into MK, so it's safe to say I'm enjoying that. Touring Rosie and Ribbit Revster best combo. Hoping we get a direct soon so we can see more of DK, a release date for Prime 4, and see what games Nintendo and third parties have up their sleeves.

I put off playing a lot of Switch 1 stuff so I've been playing through Scarlet for the first time with the upgrade patch. It's fun but even with the game running smooth, the open world still looks like shit

Ended up buying this to play my Switch 2 while at my desk because all the decent options cost more than the Switch did, how badly did I fuck up? It was only $200 and it looks like a decent panel, the HDR is rather mediocre though

Iv been getting really sweating into mk world and playing totk again and having much more fun with it than I think my first playthrough.

I like it a lot just for the Zelda memories voice clips and the Korok seed navigation. I wouldn't consider using the feature had I not played through BotW like at least 3 times already.
I use my tablet for Zelda Notes though, I have it placed on a stand just below my monitor as a secondary screen so it's kinda like 3DS or Wii U in that regard.

One of the voice memories has a big mistake in it though. At the dye shop, Zelda mentions using Silent Princess flowers to dye clothes a "royal blue", but in game they're used to dye clothes white.

BotW on Switch 2 is an opportunity to fuck around with wind bombs again, I fucking love this trick and glad they didn't patch it out.
It only works because rune bombs have a brief window after spawning where they won't explode if caught in the other bomb's blast.

Hitman WoA is fun.

I have a hunch that Nintendo will put out patches for games as part of campaigns.
E.g. "Get ready for Age of Imprisonment by playing Age of Calamity; now with 4K60".
Also just as a general opportunity to remind people to buy and play their back catalogue of hits.
Most of the titles that got updates at launch are things that Nintendo developed directly, instead of letting a second party develop it. Metroid Prime Remastered, Luigi's Mansion 3 and 2HD, Bayo 3, Astral Chain, Brothership, TTYD are all second party titles.

Xenoblade X is actually very playable even on original Switch, it was very stable there, but it's super stable on Switch 2.
Xenoblade 2 is the most in need of an update, its dynamic resolution especially in handheld mode is dire.
Brothership also badly needs that patch. You can see the game was designed with 60 FPS in mind and it was actively painful to play battles in 30 FPS with how fast the enemies move and how good your reaction times need to be.

The "Hero's Path" feature was BotW Expansion Pack DLC exclusive, and became an unlockable feature in TotK by visiting Robbie in the Hateno Lab after you've finished his side quests in Lookout Landing.

He also upgrades your Purah Pad with the Shrine Sensor (which in BotW you unlock by visiting any second tower), and the Travel Medallions (up to 3, only 1 in BotW DLC).
They're not free upgrades, but they're easy enough to get.

It sounds like you'd really make the most of the Zelda Notes feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app though, it has a navigation map that highlights where all the points of interest are, and can help direct you to them. It won't tell you how to solve korok puzzles though.

Bakeru is a key example of that, it couldn't even touch 60 on Switch 1, but maintains it effortlessly on Switch 2.

This is only a 30FPS clip from Switch 2, but this scene would've struggled hard on Switch 1, and actually struggled a little bit on Switch 2 after defeating every enemy and rushing to grab the coins.
A dedicated patch could iron out that last performance hitch, but it's not essential.

Games that use dynamic resolution also benefit, as they'll generally maintain maximum resolution without needing to sacrifice resolution to maintain performance.

I hope we'll get an upgrade for Pokemon Legends Arceus, I really wanted to play that but it looks...not great

There's a bunch of tutorial-esque sidequests that you can do as soon as you arrive at Lookout Landing, which the game strongly encourages you to do as soon as you leave the sky for the first time.

One of the major sidequests involves descending into The Depths for the first time, as you'll meet Robbie down there, and he unlocks the Camera functionality on the Purah Pad so you can complete a camera tutorial.
This side quest is a pre-requisite for fixing an air balloon in Lookout Landing, so he can go and travel to Hateno village's laboratory in the east. The air balloon thing itself is also a tutorial for using Zonaite to substitute missing devices/parts.

Dude I was using a single fan airbike for the whole game, it works perfectly and yeah the efficiency is amazing. My opinion is the game is stingy with blocks so you can't really autobuild cool shit that often. But I also did build a lot of stuff, maybe I would have tried new things if I was also using autobuild from other people.

Switch 1 games look annoying unpatched. It's 720p upscaled to 1080p. I compared with my Switch 1 and Switch 2 back and forth and I really don't like how they look on Switch 2.

But Three Houses has a very high likelihood of getting a Switch 2 update at some point within the year. If you've never played it I'm not gonna stop you. It's fantastic, but I would wait if I could, because Switch 2 updates are game-changers.

Playing Cyberpunk on the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World is a blast. I have a folder of Switch 2 games with upgrades over Switch 1 or fixed framerates I have to get to but so far my experience with the console is one of the best I've had in years. It's much different from the PS5 launch or Xbox Series X I've got my hands on. Going to dig into Borderlands 3 and Darksiders 3 since both now run at a solid 60 fps.

The Switch 2 is probably going to become my main console. It's got performance at an acceptable level and Nintendo rarely miss with their first-party titles. I just don't have enough time to play everything anymore, and a lot of the third-party stuff on all consoles doesn't hold much appeal anymore. It takes me about two months to finish a game, so as long as that cadence is there, I'll be okay. I've also got a bit of a backlog of Switch titles that will keep me going for a bit.
Plus with PC and PS5, if you have some patience, shit goes dirt cheap and is often in a better state. I bought Dynasty Warriors Origins at launch and it was on sale like two months later. Pissed me right off. The only game I'm interested in on PS5 is Silent Hill f. It is nice to see Konami making games again.

Hard to go wrong with the LG B/C4. Just get an OLED that goes up to 4K 120hz and does HDR, but I'm pretty sure any OLED you can find will have HDR. VRR doesn't even work in docked mode so don't worry about that.

Nintendo Switch sold 152 million units but only 2.3% (3.5 million) of them upgraded to the Switch 2 on day 1. That’s a terrible on-boarding rate. Even worse knowing some sales were to scalpers

What kind of TV do you have? I have a shitty 2016 vizio that technically supports HDR, but just makes everything look worse on any device I try it with. No amount of calibration can fix it. I really wouldn't bother with HDR on older TVs that aren't OLED, they can just technically meet the spec and accept the input but it doesn't even need to look good or anywhere near correct to advertise HDR support.

Seems like that TV isn't great with HDR to begin with. It's nice to have but you can quickly get used to not having it. You can typically find the LG B4 55" or even 65" versions under $1000, there isn't too much of a reason to go the C4 over it. Are you using the HDMI cable that came with the Switch 2? Are you sure that HDR is enabled on your TV? Sometimes it can detect that's capable but not actually enable HDR for you, sometimes you need Game Mode enabled on Samsung.

The sage powers you get in TotK are a lot less intuitive than the BotW ones because most of them require you to stand next to a ghost and press a prompt unlike in BotW where you used those powers in far more organic ways. Only Tulin's really meshed well with regular gameplay. Divine beasts got replaced by temples, the journey to some of them is pretty cool, the climb to the flying ark near the Rito village in particular felt great. Shrine system is the same.

I’m having a lot of fun with Mario Kart, more so than I usually do with them. You can really tell that Monolith had a heavy hand in these environments and character designs It’s hilarious how much sexier the women get as soon as the horniest fuckers at Nintendo get their hands on them. Takahashi’s vision is truly inspiring.

yeah tears' biggest failing is really that it's an open-world game and it doesn't mesh well with the story structure it's trying to have, i find that dungeons just simply aren't compatible with the kind of game BOTW and TOTK are trying to be either. it bumps into a very similar problem as link between worlds does where dungeons don't have any expectation of what items you currently have because you could have all of them or none of them, and so aren't built around them. i could literally feel how badly riju's temple in TOTK wanted to give you a proper mirror shield.

Hopefully more and more devs are getting devkits now that it is released. I'd love to see some more updates from third parties like No Mans Sky got.

The puzzles in the TotK dungeons, as well as reaching them in the first place, require co-operating with your new allies and the unique powers they grant. All of them are returning characters, but grown up.

Tulin for example, was a very, very easily overlooked character in BotW, but becomes a major character in TotK.

IMO the dungeons in TotK has a massive upgrade and feel better than just being extended shrines.
The boss variety is also far better, instead of being four flavors of "Ganon goo infused with Sheikah tech".
