I shudder to think how much they've perfected the MTX system- the mathematical perfection they've managed to achieve in their jewery. GTAO was bad by the end, but they got in late, the system was implemented after the fact. With GTA VI, the entire online portion will be built around it.

I stopped playing GTA:O not long after heists were added and it was already bad then. I saw some ludicrously expensive yacht you could buy, but that's really it. How has it gotten any worse since?

Massive inflation with hard crackdowns on every money exploit or anything that they perceive to de-incentivize buying shark cards. There's still ways to do it, but you gotta grind hard and if you're coming in fresh with nothing- like all of the third worlders that got the game for free a couple years back- that 10 dollar shark card looks mighty tempting. That's how they managed to bring in a billion per year, and I can only imagine they're gonna shoot for more with GTAVI.

sounds sound at first but I don't think I can agree. GTAO dropped like a month after gta 5. so the time frame indicates they've already put thought into certain things back then

I might have misspoken, didn't mean to say they didn't have any intentions of monetizing the online, I meant to say they hadn't quite gotten the handle of it at the start like they have now. The heists were way too profitable, and it was too easy to get all the best shit buy just playing the game instead of waiting for your passive businesses to earn, less incentives to buy the shark cards. They fumbled it with RDRO, but I think the new GTAO will see them really hit their stride.
