The ps2 version of SOTC runs literally at 15-20fps whenever you're fighting an enemy.
The ps3 version is the same game but runs at a solid 60fps and runs at higher resolution.
There is no contest.

why is it so difficult to simply play the original game? if You do not like it why would You like remake of it, makes no literal sense besides being a money grab

Parallel-GS is the best way to play SOTC though it looks a bit better on PCSX2 when properly set up.

The newer versions of PCSX2 have smoe z-fighting but everything else can be fixed with tweaks but the closest to PS2 version in my limited tests was LRPS2(retroarch) with PGS. It looks less sharp than on PS2 but it had all the effects rendered well as far as I could tell. I only killed the first 2 bosses though.

doesn't get much better than that. here's another cool trailer from an earlier version, back when it was called Nico (ni meaning two, ico being Ico, so a sequel to Ico)
what I really love about SotC and all of Ueda's games is the simplicity. all of the games are such simple ideas but they're all executed flawlessly, no fluff or filler
it's funny how so many developers claim to worship Ueda (like Miyazaki, Yoko Taro etc) but none of them seem to understand what makes his games truly special

If I'd never played the PS2 version, I could see where maybe this wouldn't bother me, but knowing how good the PS2 version was makes the PS4 version unplayable for me.
>worse art style
>worse animations
>dramatically worse volumetric clouds
It's a great example of a remake that succeeds only due to be being carried by how good its source material is. The only meaningful improvement it has over the original PS2 version is the frame rate, but the tradeoffs just aren't worth it.

the 2nd pic with Wander standing near the altar says so much about how they just don't get it on any level
the Forbidden Lands are supposed to be blinding and ethereal from inside the comfort of the temple. once you get out of it the game adjusts how harsh it is, similar to how our eyes adjust to brightness in real life
not to mention it just frames the image so much better, providing contrast by putting the focus entirely on Wander rather than the pillars and mountains in the background

Obviously the pictures neither show animations nor dynmaic lighting.
Weird how the fur looks way better in the og. Overall it's really not a huge improvement in any way though. It looks like they had to reduce the fog so people would even see the more detailed textures and foliage.

I feel like if someone really respected Ueda's games, they wouldn't try to remake them in the first place
even if you were trying to be as respectful to the material as humanly possible it's still nobody's place to tamper with the original work, and it's disrespectful to think that you can improve upon it, especially artistically
it's ironic how so many people are fixated on games being art yet these same people are content with an entirely unrelated dev team on the other side of the world remaking the games they almost universally consider to be art. about as stupid as trying to remake the Mona Lisa

It's a game about training a dog. So the first half of the game you know the solution to a puzzle immediately but you're trying to get that big fuck to actually do what you want him to do. The frustration you feel at the game/Trico for not cooperating with you is 100% intentional but it still doesn't make for an enjoyable experience.
It gets better later on once you've established a bond with Trico but the game doesn't have much in terms of set pieces, combat or story so it always feels kind of bland.

Imagine thinking this game is pretentious. Ueda just wanted to tell a simple "boy meets girl" story about bravery and trust, plus he wanted to make a game inspired by the cinematic platformers that he liked playing on his Amiga computer (Another World, Flashback, Prince of Persia). He also wanted the game to have a distinctive vibe so that it would stand out from the crowd.

someone wanting to emulate Ueda would make a game that feels like playing a myth, but in your own style, and it would likely be totally different and unique from Ueda's work

yeah it looks cooler than it is fun to play.
Wish someone would revisit this idea of battling collossi but make the gameplay better.
You can try Dragon's Dogma for better boss climbing gameplay, but it's not really the same.

Pozilla's leadership have proven themselves to be unscrupulous, scumbags. Why wouldn't they?

need more bells and whistles to distract you from the core gameplay? how about a superficial rpg mechanics to make it feels theres complex progression systems and builds? or hundreds of points of interests to clutter the map with so you will always stumble upon "quality content" like a jumping puzzle or an enemy checkpoint? shadow of the colossus is a beautiful expression of reductionism. the game has zero fat.

Jusant is a bit like this but the "logs" you can find cheapen it. They even sort of aped the climbing mechanic so the inspiration is even more obvious.

damn, that game was pure magic, even though everything was empty it had this foreboding feeling, and the frame rate dropped quite a lot even on the first colossus but you didnt care.

same with GTA SA

Crazy how just by up scaling, some PS2 games is almost on pair with 7th gen games.
Add a texture pack, a bloom filter and a piss, poop or vomit filter, and boom: a next-gen game!
