Mario Kart 7 has more polygons and a hack that adds a dozen more cups.
Mario Kart DS also has a few hacks, one of them also made by the CTGP team, but they are unfinished.
I prefer Mario Kart 7.

DS by a mile. The circlepad sucks dick, they brought coins back, and the new courses sucked ass. Plus gliders just slow you down. Literally the only thing I can say that was good in it was neo bowser city

I love MK7 because of its first person mode. It makes racing much more immersive and greatly improves the sense of speed.
