Galaxy. For starters, the sequel is much better designed.

Haven't played RE4, so I'm going to have to go with Twilight Princess. Mediocre by Zelda standards, merely good by normal ones. The other 2 are masterpieces.

Never played MGS, but I've replayed Galaxy and RE4 many times since their release. I've played TP twice and both times it bored the shit out of me.

There's some damned good parts of Twilight Princess, but the pacing is infuriating. In their zeal to make "the biggest Zelda adventure of all time" they stretched parts of it wayyyy too thin.

I agree with you, but lmao - the journalists at that time (minus GameSpot) kept saying it was one of the best of all time. I kept thinking, "wtf are you thinking". Showed how these journalist guys, even back then - seemed to prefer linear, cinematic slop instead did something granting you some player agency. I'm glad GameSpot gave it that 8.8, but even that was wayyy too generous. As a huge SNES/N64 Zelda fag, TP felt like a huge "fuck you". Never felt that betrayed with a game minus Tales of Legendia and FFXIII.

Even Jeff Gerstmann, the guy who reviewed it, agrees with that. He's talked about how Gamespot's scoring system worked back then by scoring various individual components like control/graphics/music etc. into a spreadsheet and it would spit out the official score, and if it were up to him to just give it a number he would have scored it lower.

I understand the hate but still. My only thing against Galaxy is that Galaxy 2 is strictly better, and I like horror RE more than action RE so RE4's not my favorite in the series. Both are still good. No comment on MGS3.

MGS1-3 are pretty similar to classic RE in a lot of ways. They're highly relatable and designed around getting better ranks. You're doing a lot of the same stuff in terms of optimizing your path through areas to minimize damage and ensuring you have enough resources.

Depends on what you value. In terms of raw mechanics yes, 64 and Sunshine are snappier games. Galaxy has a very different direction with its level designs though, both in that they're more obstacle course oriented and have gravitational physics fuckery. Personally, I like Galaxy's approach to level design more in terms of platformers. 64, Sunshine, and subsequently Odyssey all feel a bit playground-esque in comparison to me, not really my preference.
