Doom 1 isn't too bad with mazes but the downside is that the combat and encounters aren't much to write home about. Doom 2 has better weapon and enemy variety but absolutely sucks in terms of levels outside of a handful.

Doom is a lot like BLOOD where the toolset, weapons, enemies, and overall idea/aesthetic are really awesome but the levels don't utilize it all to its fullest potential. I wish there was a Death Wish equivalent for Doom, basically the base game in a lot of ways but utilizing the game's best elements

the ai was revolutionary at the time. to this day it kicks ass. i remember playing half life 1 when it came out on pc and that was likw whoa this is gaming on another level. the jump in pc gaming was immense
