How do you decide when to drop a game?
If you are halfway through, do you finish despite the sunk cost, or quit because you aren't having fun?

The stealth and puzzle maps are there to teach you how to play the game properly in the later maps where not utilizing stealth mechanics will get you slaughtered. Also to be really fucking mean sometimes. Expect them to get worse.

Any time I decide to "push through" or "give a game a chance" I regret it. There are some games that had to grow on me, and ones where I did put it down and pick it up later, but the ones that were actually worth it (like Outer Wilds or Nine Sols) would at least have something in them that made me want to pick it up again

yeah the game seems to hate the player. The turret/trap tutorial level put me off really hard when it gave me an A/B option and one will brick you if you pick it since you cant outrange the turrets at the end which is like a half hour of progress lost chipping away at turrets and mines.

Honestly I think my problem is I dont savescum and the game really wants me to savescum

There will be a lot of "gotchas!" where you basically had no way of knowing that action could have fucked you up without sitting around and observing the patrol routes for a few turns. Also tons of things you'd never know without looking them up, like that turret/trap level has a secret bypass you can do to get around having to time Mendo and Jefuty getting through perfectly. It's malicious frequently for sure. Stockholm syndrome is how I would describe my enjoyment for this game. I thought it'd be worse on a replay with all the puzzles but turns out by the end of it you just learned how the developers think so it's pretty smooth. I did both playthroughs on Challenge+ but I used what checkpoints the game gave me.

The combat in general is not very good. Specifics to that boil down primarily to the enemy AI and design. Nothing in the game is very fun to fight. They're too predictable and never seem like they're actually out to, you know, kill you. It's like fighting basic Resident Evil zombies for 30 hours, except with no fear of running out of ammunition, which is ironic considering the durability mechanic, but it's ultimately a non-issue since you can just walk away from fights. There's very little context where an enemy actually gatekeeps you from anything.
I can go into more if you want, but that's the bulk of the gameplay right there.

For me one of the drastic cases was shining resonance refrain. I tried really hard to like the game but the most I could get from it after 3 attempts was that its a janky arpg that makes walking simulators look fun by comparison. no amount of cleavage window could justify how bad that game is.

I am very selective when it comes to the games I will play, I will look at images and videos of the game, if I like what I see then I will play the game.

By doing this, I have a very high chance to not drop a game, even then sometimes I drop them because something else that I was looking forward to releases and forces me to stop playing.

>How do you decide when to drop a game?
sometimes i stop because the game is shit and unfun, not story gameplay or anything worthwhile for me so i use my time for the better, that is the ideal but most of the time i stop playing because i reach 1/4th of the way through and then life fucks me in the ass for a month and i never pick it up again, i have like 5 games that i stopped playing midway because of this across the last year
>do you finish despite the sunk cost
because of not inspite of.
that was my mentality long ago but i stopped because it's stupid retarded and faggots here who tell you "NOOOOOO this game is different :,(,,, it gets better in 20 more levels trust me :,(,,,,, it will be worth it" are deranged and shouldn't be engaged, I'm still stuck with a shitty gacha """game""" because of them and it feels like a job, whoever designed gachas should be tortured to death. if the game didn't catch your interest for a while and you gave it a fair shake then immediately drop it and run the opposite way of anyone telling you "it's a hidden gem made by a secretly genius tortured savant type individual who's the savior of mankind" or somesuch

I play a ton of games, so I drop a ton of games, and I filter them out 3 times
>does the game instantly control like dogshit? dropped
>does the game fail to hook me in the first 5 minutes through gameplay? dropped
>after playing for an hour or two, I decide if the gameplay is scaling in complexity, or at the very least, the other aspects of the game are progressing, if not, dropped
If I play the for over an hour and I think it's a 7 or higher, than I finish
with the exceptions of games who randomly decide to tell the player to go fuck themselves halfway through

How much theres left, how long will it actually take to get there (harder games take longer because repetition), how tired Im of it (in my jrpgs I never do the last dungeon/boss because I just want it to end), etc
Anonymous No.712769303 [Report]
The general goal is to get to the main story ending. If I like the game, I will do more if there is post game and additional content. If the game becomes a complete slog and feels miserable to play, I will stop. Or if I get distracted by another game, but that's why I try to have one or two games to play at once, and maybe one other game I can come back to whenever, usually something like AoE2.
Anonymous No.712769451 [Report]
If I'm close to the end I normally say fuck it and finish it.

What usually happens is I eventually I hit a barrier. What this means is, a frustrating part of a game or a part that takes more effort than usual. If I like the game, I'll try my hardest to push through it. If I don't like the game enough, this is usually the dropping point for me.
Anonymous No.712769846 [Report]
>>712757014 (OP)
If I really want to like the game then I might keep playing even if I start to get bored, but I still probably won't finish it if it's a longer game. If it's some game I picked up on a whim then I usually drop it the moment I find myself getting bored. There's no reason to play a game if you're not enjoying yourself, and forcing yourself to finish a game you're not enjoying will likely just make you like it even less after you finish.
Anonymous No.712770107 [Report]
I got a pretty good sense for if it's shit from the get go but if I'm bored I usually just stop. I do fall for story investment traps every once in a while where if the story is good I keep going despite shit gameplay. Heed my warning and do not play the kiseki series past Ao no Kiseki because it gets real shitty real quick.
