So how is it?

I think this is one of the best DLCs in games of this type. Overall i'd rate it almost as high as Old Hunters, which still edges out a tiny bit because of its incredible atmosphere and better boss music. But as a full package, it's still amazing. God tier movesets for new weapons, there's literally not a single bad DLC weapon, and boss weapons are all crazy. The level design is still mostly linear but each area feels handcrafted, there are tons of new enemies, even reskinned old enemies all gained several new attacks, shit's crazy. There's a ton of sovl everywhere, gesture interactions, reactivity for the main game, a ton of lore that complements main game.

It makes me question Fromsoft's gmes in quality and wish they have done better if Miyazaki wasn't allergic to narrative or evolving past rolling.

Surpassed all soulsslop and actually did more with the formula than Fromsoft could ever done.

just finished it, great overall. Most of the new levels are really good, lore-wise and atmosphere it was great as well. My biggest gripe is some of the new weapons weren't all that impressive, and it really lacked a new big STR weapon

Also I wouldn't recommend playing it in NG+, the damage scaling seems busted.

Without spoilers, does it fix the level design? Loved the base game systems but a lot of levels were gimmick riddled and scammed you to die.

I would. But I'd recommend beating the final boss in the base game, then do the DLC before starting NG+.
