I like the concept of a spooky apartment you can’t escape, but the actual areas you explore after entering the bathroom glory hole aren’t very scary or interesting to explore.
I'm not really much for horror games because I'm a huge pussy and don't like being scared but I still give the spooky games a try here and there. 2 gave me a crawling fear of static. Like if I just hear static or white noise for too long it gives me the creeps.Got so bad once that I fled the house and went to a friend's until I felt better.
SH4 made me shut my closet door every time. Never had a problem with it until there was a closet in game with a crying ghost boy in it. Haven't been able to leave a closet open since. I never even finished 4. Once your own apartment starts to get haunted so now you have NO safe places it stressed me out too much. The apartment was my little oasis. Once they took that away I had to stop.

They were definitely trying to do something, but half the ideas didn't land, then they said fuck it and released the same game twice on one disc.
It's shitty so a remake wouldn't sell well. Which is a shame because of the original team silent games it's by far the one that needs a remake the most. The core ideas behind the game are very good and it's interesting that it's like an inverse of SH2's take on silent hill, with the world and enemies being heavily shaped around a character's psyche though not the protagonist's this time.
I wish remakes were done out of genuine belief that a game needs to be reworked rather than just "this game was good. if we make it again on modern consoles it will sell well!".

lol no. Despite the choice to start with 2 they went with 1 afterwards so you bet if that does fine it's 3 next. But hey at least if 3 does fine too it pretty much locks in a 4 remake ages from now if whoever reads this is still alive.

This is actually one of those games that would truly benefit from a remake. Its not bad, I liked it a ton. It did have its issues though according to most SH4 enjoyers even. These issues could be fixed with some of its better elements even more properly fleshed out.

this is why I prefer believing the rumor that The Room was supposed to be a different horror game that Konami made them slap Silent Hill on to boost the sales and pretend 1-3 are all that count as original silent hill and everything after can be ignored.

Not really. Konami suits seem to be effectively ignoring SH4 with past treatment, not even bothering to release the GOG version with basic broken bug patches incorporated. Like half the hauntings missing.
That and these remakes sales tend to fall off with each cycle. Two sold alright, one will sell meh, three will be a failure and that will be that
To be honest the room is better than 3. I mean they're both rather shit compared to the first two games but the room at least has good moments and an intriguing story. I can recall like 3 rooms vividly from 3, the game is so unremarkable. and the story is just the same fucking thing on repeat. nothing meaningful is learned about the cult, alessa, heather, silent hill as a whole. it's just the same handful of lines about birthing god and le revenge repeated endlessly through different coats of paint.

GOG SH4 is fucking fixed though. The issue was the original PC release itself was scuffed, but they fixed it recently (not with any Konami input though).

It's more that the second visit is annoying as fuck between the ghosts, Eileen, apartment hauntings, limited healing and inventory, and that fucking nigger randomly showing up to shoot you off screen. It was a miserable experience but in a way it did an excellent job at achieving its goal as a horror game, it makes you feel dread.

A remake of SH4 would need to refine the experimentalaspects, and the second half of the game, should be something new instead of backtracking.
Those two things would be enough to guarantee a successful remake.

Only after years of the re release and only thing it does is incorporate pre made fan patches. The original release was a straight up fugly pc port from back in the day that cost them zero bucks to pull off the shelf

Yeah. Shit sucks. Being a coward is dildoes. I can't even stand in front of the car tire when im inflating it. Have to stand off to the side because WHAT IF IT EXPODES AND I DIE. Its a hassle.

ontop of this, its based on the inferior xbox version (much like the SH2 pc port) and has tons of missing effects as a result. Even has lower quality textures/models in some areas than the xbox version for some reason

Konami’s whole strategy now is like throwing a dirty sock in a box labeled “Silent Hill” and hoping nostalgia will sell it. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if SH: Dishwasher Simulator drops and they market it as “The Most Psychological Entry Yet.”
