Yes, it was. Rook is a terrible protagonist, companions were shit, companion quests were shit, the story was godawful, it raped the lore and more.
Some classes were fun to play though. Grey Warden, Spellblade, Fade Archer.

Nah, the writing is mediocre, the bad parts like Taash are blown out of proportion. The combat is very good, Male Rook seems like an okay dude. Way above Male Ryder for instance, but I don't think he's better than The Inquisitor.

The graphics are very good, the music was meh for the most part.

6.5/10, I'll remember some parts of it like Weisshaupt, Rook falling in The Fade, Convincing Mythal with no guidance, and the final act.

Yeah, it really was. It felt like a checklist of everything people hate about modern AAA games — preachy dialogue, shallow characters, bloated side quests, and absolutely no sense of cohesion in tone or worldbuilding. You could see the potential buried under all the “modern sensibilities” and live-service sludge, but they choked it out with cringe writing and forced narrative directions. Combat was the only thing keeping it afloat, and even that got repetitive halfway through.

It's nowhere near as good as it should be. /v/ will tell you it's shit just because of the non binary stuff, but everything else is the bigger problem. Your choices don't really matter, which is insane in a dragon age game, the gameplay is repetitive and boring, and the story is rushed to fuck with a tone that doesn't really match the series. In spite of all that I don't think it's the worst game of all time (or even of the year) or anything, but it's still wildly disappointing. If it was it's own thing, without any expectations attached to it, I would probably give it like a 4 or 5 out of 10. But it's not, and being a disappointing entry in a beloved franchise (which really only had 1 great game) is worse than being a disappointing original game. 3/10. Thank you for reading my blog.

It was the first fantasy video game I can think of that went the full Disney-fication. You can't be mean, much less evil. Everyone talks like HR is in the room. They talk to the player like they think you're a fucking idiot. All the things that were dark and edgy about the setting get sanded down and rounded off. The gameplay is full particle effect ninja power action-ified bullshit and difficulty just makes enemies ridiculous damage sponges.

The icing on the cake is that you're eventually forced to take in Taash, the most annoying character in the game who is a Qunari, but also she doesn't follow the Qun, but also she wears Qunari religious clothing, but that's because she wears whatever she wants, you don't get to tell her who she is. Not only is she ugly, but she has big, thick, goofy black eyebrows even though her hair is white, like one of the designers was deliberately making fun of her. Her personal quest is about helping her with her fucking gender identity between her explaining to you that dragons have queens, not kings and include helping her have an argument at the dinner table with her mom over said gender identity.

The writing can be genuinely baffling at times, especially if you've played these games in order.

Dragon age is unquestionably EA's worst big game of the year, and a contender for bomb of the year. In any normal year it would be the clear winner. Barve has become a meme, second only to Baaz for the year.

At the absolute most genrous, it's on par with Avowed, except with a less interesting manuvering, and Taash.

I hate this game so much I will actively avoid games made by the people who made this game. I'm looking at you Ghost of Yotei.

+Unironically, the best romance I've ever had in an RPG. Call this a subjective point or don't count it because I'm only talking about one possible option but Morrigan's romance path was amazing and deeply integrated into the main story.
