My understanding of manic pixie dream girl is that she exists ONLY to drag a male character out of his boring, mundane existence. It's not supposed to be a catch all for every chirpy girl who helps an introverted hero get out of his shell. Plus Aerith has other things going on that are separate to Cloud so the label isn't really fair in this case.
