Imagine making a game about Hogwarts but you barely have a few scenes where you're actually in class, learning magic shit. I would've made like 50 hours of classroom scenes alone. There are so many people writing fanfiction for HP stuff, there was so much to draw from. Just going to class and doing cool shit would've been enough to make the game legendary.

And then, they made like half of Scotland as a backdrop for it. And almost nothing to do in it.

Because it was made by a small studio, HL they explicitly did what they could to keep down the scope of what they had to do. Which is why the game has no Quidditch, for example.

If a big studio had made this game, you'd have started as a freshman, and you'd have gone through the years of education. Simply make the scope of the game longer, timewise. They put in the effort to make seasons display as the year progressed, making them go through years wouldn't have been particularly tough.

Had the game been continuously supported, or used as a base to be built upon, such things might have been possible.

I wound up liking the game for the twenty bucks I spent but I never had wiplash so bad from the beginning seeming to offer the total hogwarts student experience from being escorted by a professor to magic shenanigans with dragons and shit and then gringotts and the minecart ride and then you get to the castle and it's awesome and then they completely slam on the breaks and there's only classes when the story demands it, you don't have to sneak around after hours in the castle and in fact day and night are so meaningless you can't even sleep in your bed. It should have been like 40% more wizarding school sim instead of just rowling flavored rollslop.

Well, Netease went on to make a harry potter gacha which was doing good in China (not crazy levels like the big gacha games but well within the It's a good source of revenue so the devs will look after it)
Warner bros saw it doing well so they decided to also set a deal with them of hosting the Europe and Americas servers. WB did not even bother to promote the game and it was popular in the west only through word of mouth and they decided to squeeze it dry for one year and shut down the servers. Meanwhile the netease side is thriving and also took the EU/NA refugees.
It's still playable but the servers are in Asia and Oceania. The game is fineish and it's not as outrageous as other gaches when it comes to paypigging (which is funny considering that they were behind Diablo Immortal).
The artstyle is very nice, though. Without a doubt it's strongest trait

What did you expect from one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

Honestly I would have just bought a version of Hogwarts Legacy that was just aimless running around the castle environment and admiring the scenery. All the ubislop parts just drags it down.

I like 4 the most, closely followed by 6, mainly because they both have a lot of side-stories, mystery and worldbuilding. The first 2 (or 3) are nice but I remember them explaining certain things over and over, plus having a more limited scope due to being introductory. 5 is way too long for what it is, and should have spent less time on Harry's angst and more on the various cool stuff/concepts in the department of mysteries. 7 is okay but I found the latter parts (lead-up to the ending+ending+epilogue) not that great and there is too much plot conveneince overall and tries to mash up too many things into the book

Actually if you listen to your character's voice and compare, you can definitely hear that when they say "Crucio" for example, they're saying it with disgust and contempt on the tip of their tongue. I think the devs actually did their homework on this, which I can appreciate.

Based, the French one especially had that elegant touch and moodiness that made it feel distinct. The Japanese one wins just for how different their spellcasting culture is—no wands, all gesture-based incantations, felt like a totally different school system. Way more immersive than just copy-pasting Hogwarts with a different skyline.

Rowling made it seem like it’s a one way ticket to a life sentence in prison if you use one. I’ve barely played the game, but I’ve seen other people’s videos of them using them around the school and the action appears to be totally divorced from how people interact with you. Kotor and Jedi Academy are 20+ years old and using dark side powers in those games has npcs commenting/reacting on your choices.

Favorite common room? Personally I think that rooftop area Ravenclaw has is hard to beat.

Jedi Academy did add Kyle saying that it was the usage, not the power, that they condemned. They also bitch at you if you pick too many, which makes it funny if you run out of them, pick light side powers out of obligation, and get complimented for being a true Jedi. Especially if you promptly do to Rosh what everyone was looking forward to all game

Most games with a morality system have some arbitrary choice that will always amount to just doing what you've been doing all game, but Academy really made you want to be the bad guy. You even got the better final level for doing it.

It is, after all, one of the greatest jokes of modern times. You trick and psyops someone into thinking they're something they're not, that man then spends his life savings into therapy sessions, buying hormones, getting silicon tits, an irreversible surgery which no matter what, ends up looking like a horrid axe wound that needs constant dilation for the rest of his short sorry life or else the wound seals shut, and when the wound is not seal shut, it produces disgusting pus with an horrid smell which fills an entire room. You could try to find in books from hundred years ago, be it fantasy books or history books, a trick more cruel than this and you just won't be able to find any that match its cruelty.
