It wasn't as good as other games offering the same thing

I installed this game three times over the span of five years and every time I played Terminus was broken in one way or another.

Issues inside their control: Shit game. Shit devs. Shittier community. No cross team speak. No ability to speak at all after a while because devs couldnt be arsed to moderate community. At one point they even removed the best player highlight forever. Zero or very little attempts to advertise. Bad decisions after bad decisions continously.

Issues outside their control: more and more moba style games kept coming out, plus it was still competing with overwatch 1(which was vastly superior save for the north korea style moderation team.). Moba games started dying out entirely, playerbase all moved to battleroyale games as was the hype. Then when people started liking mobas again there were like 6 or more in the market, and finally marvel rivals came out and hammered in the nails in its coffin.

Personally, as a hmofa connoisseur, seeing how long it took for them to add a skin/character like Pepper, I never would see myself investing much into it.
Maybe with more furry characters like her and since the beginning, I and many of my circle would've poured much more time and money into Paladins.

Had a lot of good times with this game. For all of its flaws it had really stuff like the robust voice acting, talent and card system for diversifying character gameplay, and the VGS interactions. But there was a real lack of passion as telling by the lack of cohesive art and story direction, and nonexistence of a competent bug team leading to features getting pulled left and right. The setting had poor direction but the characters all had tons of personality that carried it. I'm gonna miss them. Furia, Vivian, Inara, Zhin, and Terminus were my people. Real shame. Good times were had in the /vg/ threads.

Long answer: Many questionable or bad decisions made when it came to game design and advertisement. Not enough time was put into polishing the game to make it seems like a real competitor to OW instead of a knockoff. The decision to remove the ability to mix and match cosmetics and POTG were extremely unpopular and demonstrate the devs would rather take shortcuts than fix the bugs associated with these features. Cosmetic customization was one of the main reasons to play the game, and having distinct voice acting for outfits is a feature no other hero shooter has so far replicated to the extent that Paladins did.
It's clear that more time should've been spent making the game look better instead of just pushing out new characters every few months.

nope. i've played this game since 2016 and i've been there every step of the way until it entered maintenance mode.
so what did the tranny devs do to kill the game? well, there's a few things. firstly, as you can see from my earlier post, they stopped making conventionally attractive characters and started pumping dei-slop nigresses. we never got a character like ying, skye, or even io after the trannies took over. and you might say that's irrelevant to the gameplay, but this game had literally no monetization aside from skins. literally none. you could buy pretty much everything, aside from skins, with gold. you could even buy battle passes just from the daily login rewards alone. so yes, characters and their appearance matter to the game's longevity, because who the fuck wants to buy skins for an obese niggress baboon?
secondly, they prioritized really stupid things for updates. they stopped releasing new heroes, presumably because nobody liked the niggers they kept pumping out, and instead made pointless map "revamps" nobody asked for. this was a waste of dev time and manpower and literally brought no attention back to the game whenever an update dropped.

I was last working on Brightmarsh, netcode, team interactions, the main menu, and the champion select balcony scene. I was also doing all the import work getting assets into Blender/Unity.
I was the only one producing tangible work. No one else really joined in to shoulder the load. Eventually I found more viable projects and real life got in the way.
CotR isn't dead but it's on hiatus for "until I have nothing better to do." So basically dead.

I miss the general. It seemed like a fun little pool of friends. I didn't join weeklys often, but when I did it was some of the best matches I ever played.
There was something in Paladins's core mechanics and design that kept the fun and charm even in the most controversial of times. What it did right in the past persisted against the future to stay alive. I think that's why we have the sentiments that we do.

On the bright side, CotR taught me so much about multiple disciplines of gamedev that I'm still glad I tried it.

Fun facts about Paladins:

Multiplayer games as a whole don't last forever
Something better eventually comes along and the old ones die and people's preferences change over time.
The end game for everyone will be narrative focused single-player games. When you're a kid, you start by playing whatever you get your hands on, what your parents buy you, free online games, cool stuff that pulls you in to the world of video gaming, when you're adolescent and a teenager, you play the zoomzoom hyperactive multiplayer PvP garbage, then you grow out of them to appreciate slower paced games that tell a story, that can be played to a conclusion leaving a lasting impression.

I used to play PvP shit between the ages of 15-25, took them way seriously and played against the top brass, and holy fuck it was the most miserable time ever. They start out cool when it's all new, then you start to optimize playing them, and it becomes a mindless K/D / ranked grind. I wasted thousands of hours on those games and I have no fond memories about any of it. None of the kill streaks or ranked wins stay with you as it's all overwritten by the eventual loss and death streaks.

I give this game credit for helping to break my addiction to f2pslop.

I had some friends drag me into playing it because I refused to spend money on Overwatch. It was actually pretty fun, but this was also around 2018-2019 when we all played together. I mained Ying, but slowly took a liking to Maeve's playstyle. Really liked running around in 3rd person in casual matches, too. If I had to describe what made the game good as its core, and compile the thoughts of everyone posting before me:
>Moderately slow TTK that keeps things time-critical but gives you enough time to react to an attack and decide on strategic ability usage.
>Large hitboxes shifted priority away from FPS skill factor of aiming to MOBA skill factors of ability usage, positioning, and team coordination.
>Hero ability kits that don't lock you to a specific role, but broadly help you into a wide-range of possible roles. Flank tanks, damage supports, etc.
>Card loadout system that lets you tweak a character's kit from minor QoL to completely alternative playstyles.
>Item shop to adapt to the course of a match and further customize your character.
>Cards and Items give enough choices but not overwhelming like League's item shop.
>Slower movement creates consequences for bad positioning, and puts important on good usage of movement abilities. Movement shooter nuts who don't want to play a slow MOBA could practice BK/Evie/Andro and terrorize other players.
>MOBA maps that kept things open, offer lots of flanks, and gave the choice of isolated routes or team fights.
>Despite all these MOBA elements, first-person camera, which I find greatly alters perception, game sense, and immersion.

On the more subjective/aesthetical elements:

The horse mechanic was so much fun.

Devs just never cared to further develop the game outside the online PVP aspect.
We never got any meaningful single player or story content. Just some hastily slapped together "world" with "lore" and not really expanding on it.
They also never cared to create a big community and keep it alive and engaging. They barely held events on Twitch or whatever, for example.

All they really cared about was skin skin skin, new character, skin skin skin, new map, skin skin, new character.
And well, shit just got stale. Game started getting too crowded. New characters just coming with awful designs or overpowered kits.
It was just a great game that got the worst devs in history.

I almost want to agree with you on that, but 2 problems with how comp was handled:
1. No role queue. I know people hate this in casual. But there needs to be some way of pre-organizing PUG players into an agreeable team comp. Plenty of comp matches have been ruined by the last guy not picking the right role. I know alternative team comps are a thing and need to be possible, but it shouldn't be possible to go strix when we needed a healer and not get penalized.
2. At some rank, you were unable to queue with more than 1 other person. The rationale was that if people grouped up into full parties, they would be too powerful.
So you weren't allowed to form an organized team in the competitive mode of your 5v5 team game.
This is absurd, I don't know of any other similar game in its genre that does this.
On top of that, they restricted you to a party count that can't cleanly divide the team size. Meaning at least one person always had to be competing solo, which hurts their performance and experience.
If everyone played competitive optimally and only partnered up with a duo, matchmaking would just shut down.
And it creates the secondary problem of players at different levels of competitive play using different rules than the very top of the esport, which does allow organized 5 man teams.
You unironically would have a closer competitive experience to the Paladins League by tracking your Guru stats in casual mode with a 5 man team.
