Yes. One of the few times I wish a game as long as Astlibra is had another 10 to 20 hours to go.
>>712804863 (OP)Fuck yes that's the good shit
>>712804863 (OP)Overrated trash. Good thing it flopped and no one cares about this anymore.
One of those games I can't discuss because the fanbase is kind of spastic.
>>712807436Kinda like any other game on /v/
>>712804863 (OP)An incredible experience and one of the few actual /v/ core games.
>>712804863 (OP)Amazing, original, interesting.
>>712807354The DLC was good if only for squeezing more gameplay hours into an already great experience, but it just doesn't hit as hard as the main game.
>>712804863 (OP)It certainly was an experience, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece or anything.

i stopped at the chapter when you go to the island to look for your red haired buddy. so much backtracking and looking for where to go, i just didnt feel it anymore.

I liked it. It was one of those rare cases where the dev just kept adding stuff to the game, and yet it never stopped making sense. Usually games have a pretty low tolerance for bloat. Devs don't want to let go of the game and start ruining it, but Astlibra seems to have a huge tolerance for it. After you finish the entire fucking game and think the adventure is over, you suddenly discover a new mechanic for upgrading weapons, and it all starts again, and you keep playing...
It's like that TV series that could have ended 15 seasons ago, but not only did it not end, it's still good and all the additions it makes make perfect sense. That's insane.
Astlibra is truly a unique game. It's a phenomenon of game design.
Lightning in a bottle.
Even Keizo doesn't know how he did it.
It truly is a masterpiece though.

>>712809221>tfw final chapter is at 1/3 of the way>title drops 20 hours in>you kill a god in the 3rd chapter but the game continues to escalate throught the whole experience>new mechanics every few chapters but the somehow make sense and intertwine perfectly>rainI regret not starting on hard difficulty because that's the only achievement I am missing.
>>712809657>I regret not starting on hard difficulty because that's the only achievement I am missingYou can change the difficulty with Cheat Engine
>>712809791I played it 2 years ago on release. I'll probably start another nightmare playthrough in few years.
>>712809657>but the game continues to escalate throught the whole experienceI think the progression system is key for this, yes the story steps up constantly but the grinding of everything (weapons, summons, stats, items for shop) leads to you constantly feeling like you're working towards something too. Locking it per chapter works really nice for this since you feel like you achieved something when you fill everything out and then you get even more.
Also the music goes hard right from the start https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvRNjuoKvlI
>>712804863 (OP)No. I need MORE.
Second playthrough and DLC just ain't it.
I liked Astlibra so much that I played through the devs Match 3 mobile game called Magicus. It has a ton of progression systems like Astlibra does but it's way grindier. I put over 30 hours into it. I never want to play a match 3 game again.
I could play Astlibra again right now though, that game is fantastic.
>>712810325This is one of the few long games where I felt that the length was actually correct.
>>712810180>took 16 years to makeWe'll never get another one.
>>712804863 (OP)Yes, one of my favorite games and very glad /v/ recommended it. 100%'d both base game + dlc and loved every moment of it.

I WILL marry my childhood friend
I WILL save my crow daddy
I WILL save my bro and his sister
I WILL save the big tiddy witch and her tsundere friend
I WILL save the shota sexbot
ALL of us are getting their happy endings
So what the fuck was the deal with the Future cast? Who really was the salaryman? Who the fuck was the mecha pilot girl and why was she obediently following Astraea?
>>712811137>Who the fuck was the mecha pilot girl and why was she obediently following Astraea?she was always loyal to Astraea. I think they say she's someone else's follower when she's introduced but she's actually working to help Astraea the whole time. She even says explains before the real fight with her that while you're both on the same side she still needs to fight you to keep her alliance a secret, or something along those lines.
>>712804863 (OP)It's literally a masterpiece
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4MzDaGpERo
why has no one posted this one yet
>>712811487I get that. But I'm asking /who/ she is. In a future where technology reigns supreme, belief in the divine is non-existent and humans literally capture gods in mecha bondage, having a loyal god follower as a mecha pilot, and a high ranked one at that, seems really out of place.
>>712811137I'm pretty sure the salary man was the former CEO of the future corp and Anubis' father
>>712804863 (OP)Yes. The very endgame was a bit of a letdown, and I wasn't huge on the DLC taking after it, but overall I'd give it a 9/10.
>>712811797Anulis' dad is fucking dead. His last action was putting her brain in the anubis system so that she can at least be put on some kind of life support system. Salaryman is heavily implied to be the really really fucking distant descendant of the couple from the swamp. Due to him having dreams of a Dog guardian deity who you should be familiar with.

Kuro is so much better than Shiro (either version) that it isn't even funny.
Kuro was even better than Anulis IMO. Anulis leaned way too far into the "perfect and boring anime OTP childhood friend trope for my liking/
>>712811762That commander guy is just that retarded.
>>712804863 (OP)Amazing game really. I was a bit unsure at first, but man, it was such a great experience. The music is fantastic as well.

Sorry but Keizo supports the use of AI in game development. You can't enjoy this anymore.
>>712812308Oh no...
Anyway
Is he working on astlibra 2 right now?
>>712812643He's making a shump at the moment.

>>712804863 (OP)I fucking loved it. It's extremely rough around the edges, but it's was also my favorite game of 2022. I'll always prefer janky indie games with a lot of heart to trend chasing bullshit and dull overpolished AAA slop.
>>712804863 (OP)Yes but, Postgame is great but it fundamentally ruins the most important character in the whole game.
GO WHEN has now been stuck in my head all morning, thanks /v/.
>>712804863 (OP)Possibly the only game where magic and melee system felt distinct instead of just attacking with more reach, but at the same time incredibly easy to use, flowing perfectly into the motions of combat.
I just wish lategame didn't have such a heavy reliance on long invincibility granted by some summons.
>>712809542>>712809186>>712808796https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w8ppfp9KD4
Yeah, I'm thinking unfiltered SOVL
>>712812734>japanese dev goes from making 2d kino to a shitty looking shmupDeja Vu, I've been in this place before.
>>712810883It was cheesy and anime as fuck but I loved the fact that the game gives you three possible, realistic points to stop and just accept things as they are to be happy.
>you can accept Anulis's death and get an early ending where the MC moves on with Shiro and Kuro>accept that the world is different now and live with Anulis, forgetting about Karon and your friends>you could AGAIN accept that Anulis is gone after saying your piece to her and defeating AstraeaBut the true ending requires you to say fuck that, I want to have my cake and eat it too. And this stubbornness actually saves the world, since otherwise Geas would have destroyed everything.
>>712812734Looks like shit, but astlibra also looked like shit and is still one of the best game this generation.
>>712813229And then MC's "do or die fuck consequences lmao" attitude in postscript actually did turn out to have consequences, as his rampant abuse of the scales for his anime bullshit was incurring the expected absurd karmic costs, but it was all being shouldered by Astraea, who turns out to genuinely love humanity and is willing to stake her own divine life and existence for it. Even if her "children" only viewed her as a petty god in the end.
>>712811137Nagumo is a direct descendant of the elderly couple and the dog you save in the swamp communes with him in his dreams.
>>712813229How do you feel about Anulis going from a tortured eldritch bipolar technological entity into a generic girl in the Postgame ?
>>712813716>master1200Anon, I sure hope you don't make a habit of saving those.
>>712813716Lilica AND Anulis deserved to be happy after all the shit they went through. The fact that the Anulis you get at the end is the true fusion of both is really sweet. And I wouldn't consider her a generic girl, she does remember everything that happened for better or worse.
>>712813869grabbed the image from pixiv because i coulldn't be asked to download it from reddit as a webp and then using something to change format to jpg
Combat 10 hours in felt the exact same as the end of the game, and it wore out its welcome pretty hard.
Also the stat progressions have so little consistency that it seems wild that they were intentionally designed, so many random hikes.
>>712814176>grabbed the image from pixivYeah, and you grabbed the downsampled version of it, that's what the master_1200 shit is. It's not too noticeable on smaller images with simple coloring like that one, but it fucks with bigger/fancier ones a lot more.
more than half of the game was autism grinding, but the autism grinding was the only part of the game I didn't enjoy.
Does Gau really want to bang his sister? Half the time he seems like he's joking, half the time... yeah I think Meloo is gonna stay single, he's incestpilled.
>>712814949>Does Gau really want to bang his sister? No. His sister, on the other hand...
>>712814949Funny enough he kind of stops the incest talk when Lisa is back safe. It's Lisa who wants it more than he does at that point.
>>712814949I think he's disassociating hard, last think he saw of his sister was when she was a cute kid and now suddenly he has a bombshell of a woman following him around.
He probably has difficulties associating this new person to his sister.
>>712814949It is just the usual Japan "brothers and sisters have deeper relationships here" nonsense rearing its head again. Patently false and only a thing in anime. To be fair, you don't really see it much anymore - Astlibra still has a ton of old anime tropes due to the 16 year dev cycle.
>>712815421>It is just the usual Japan "brothers and sisters have deeper relationships here" nonsense rearing its head again.Last I checked, she originally wanted to be his girlfriend in her next life.
>>712815421>Astlibra still has a ton of old anime tropes due to the 16 year dev cycleOne of the reasons it's good
>>712815594I actually agree with you - it is a good mix of old school charm and more modern game mechanics. It is the kind of thing that is hard to get right, but this game nails it.
Think of Xenoblade 2 - it comes close but goes just a bit too far into trope town. Still a good game, but Astlibra does the same kind of thing better.

>>712804863 (OP)I wanted to like it but I played the demo and felt like it was some inconsistent thing put together.
>>712816193I know you probably see this every thread but the demo is actually the worst way to introduce anyone to the game, it just puts you way too far into the deep end and nothing makes sense. The gradual and continuous progression of all of the systems is really needed since the game just keeps on adding more stuff and does not stop.
>>712816193>>712816350Wasn't the demo the nightmare sequence?
>>712817120Yeah, it's a completely non-sensical starting point and understandably turns people off. I know it would've made me think twice about playing the game if another anon didn't warn me about it beforehand.
>>712811137The real question would be who's the sage? He seems to be above the ayys
>>712810381Keizo said he won't do something of this scale again, but he'll continue making games. Astlibra DLC had a sequel bait so who knows

Any game you have to play twice to get the real ending is garbage
Rank them
https://strawpoll.com/NPgxe79W4Z2
>>712824053You don't have to play astlibra twice to get that ending though
>>712824053Postscript isn't the same thing though, it's not NG+ it's a whole new set of events. It's explicitly not a NG+, and every major plot event plays out differently, resulting in a very different end state before the true final boss starts.
>>712807436>the fanbase is kind of spastic. Is it? I've only seen a few AstLibra threads but they were all pretty civilized.

Did anyone here finish it? Does it get better? I just finished the part where you fight the MC & Karon and then woke back up with the world filled with geas roots like in postscript
it was good but it wasn't mindblowing
>>712827212The demo is absolute slop compared to the game, it actually turned me off. Its so weird and random, i thought it was super weird but i ended up liking the game a lot pretty quickly after i actually tried it
