>If EA made a Mario Kart game
>...and Nintendo was just hired to make sure it was polished
>Add in a Battle Royale Mode while you're at it
It feels...corporate.

It's nuts how Mario Kart 8 has sold 76 million, but they still felt the need to BOTWify the next game, like anyone cares.

>If EA made a Mario Kart game
That's kind of true considering where Doug Bowser came from. It's very unlikely that he had any real direct input on the game other than the marketing and product positioning of it, but he's still from EA.

By corporate logic it's simple
>Zelda didn't used to sell much but fans loved it
>Add open world and it quadruples sales figures, and fans still love it!!!
>ADD IT TO EVERY NINTENDO FRANCHISE!!!!
>THEY'LL LOVE IT!!!!!
>MonolithSoft are EXPERTS at creating Open Worlds!
>Outsource 50% of every game to them, while their B-team makes the next Xenoblade slop!
>I'm so happy we bought this AAA developer into Nintendo!

What I think happened:
>Iwata dies, and it's the first time Nintendo prematurely has to elect a new leader, not handpicking the "Best candidate" after careful consideration
>They pick a corporate/finance guy with experience in accounting
>This is the new Tone at the Top at Nintendo Japan
>Reggie Fils-aime isn't getting along that well with this new leadership vibe
>Doug Bowser is
>Reggie took a lot of shit internally for Wii U marketing from american investors
>He feels afraid of Switch's momentum that he may end up holding it back
>Doug is making "talented" decisions about business and finances
>Reggie quits as he feels it's not his Nintendo anymore
>New Tone at the Top respects Shinya Takahashi as the General Manager of dev studios, but increasingly brings up business-smart ideas to him
>Shinya feels the Tone at the Top
>Brings ideas to the devs on the ground floor
>They're mandated to make expected slop
>Minecraft-adjacent concepts
>Roblox "build your own" shit
>Fortnite elements
>AAA standard patterns
>Shinya holds on to the "Nintendo way" of instructing developers to maintain the old edict of "Dokuso" (To be unique)
But at the back of his mind, he knows all is being encroached by this new techno-pumping corporate style, that is best exemplified in the Switch 2 Tour game, or the new pricing models, or how they're taking away Copyrighted problems and locking them into services that belong to NSO instead of Spotify where music normally goes.
You can IMO just tell that Nintendo is now a very very different corporation than just 10 years ago.

I can tell 90% of these posts have not even played the game or haven't just taken the time to vibe in free roam because they saw collectables and hard focused on that.
