Walking IS the most interesting part of DS and you already lost by ceding ground to people using "walking simulator" as an insult. Your video is just some solid TPS action, but we've seen this before many many times. Walking makes up a lion's share of this game.
Death Stranding is the only game that really tried to *simulate* walking, travelling on foot.
Something like Dear Esther should just be considered an adventure game or an exploration game. DS is doing somethning completely different.

I wish the game was just traversing the world, overcoming natural hazards, timefall and sneaking away from BTs. Combat doesn't hurt the game but it didn't add to it either, though there were some fun things to experiment with. I'm also not a fan of the heap of deliveries and rank system either though but I get why they included them.

The walking simulator is the best part of it
>planning a trip
>plotting a route
>selecting equipment
>journeying
>navigating
>getting over or around obstacles
This is all great
What's shit is everything else
>you like walking? Have some CARS and ROADS and ZIPLINES
>and how about some GHOSTS and ENEMIES and OILY WHALE MONSTERS
If it had just been a hiking simulator, it would have been great

My opinion, Kojimbo should either go 100% into hiking sim or 100% into infrastructure construction sim.
The idea of building up a road network to trivialize deliveries is very appealing to me, but its so basic that it feels half assed.

How people still don't get that Death Stranding is an action game is beyond me. Even the traversal part of the game lets you do so many wacky things. The game was NEVER about walking slowly from A to B.

It's about a variety of mechanics in an open world sandbox. Anyone who says otherwise failed to engage with the game.

No it absolutely needs to be both. The whole point of Death Stranding is that it’s a surrealist take on America’s pioneering mythology, whereby rugged individuals carved an arduous path through hostile landscapes and then conquered that landscape via their ingenuity and connection (railroad networks, trading routes, etc.). It’s why the gameplay loop is so compelling.

I see this claim made all the time, is there any evidence that anyone ever “held him back”? By all accounts Konami was extremely hands-off with him, they’ve always essentially trusted him to do what he felt was best. This of course is why he was ultimately ousted from the company but still.

The combat in DS1 is pretty satisfying. Throwing packages to knock out enemies, ramming them with your truck, tying them up and then kicking them into submission. It's great and it'd be nice to see more of it in the sequel with a little extra polish.

You're low IQ and cannot into introspection. If you would, you would come to the understanding that your problem isn't action per se, but badly done action-slop and over the top cinematic that dulls the senses and in a way, also diminishes the impact of action itself. It's why everyone with taste hates Transformers, but loves Tom Hardy's Mad Max.

I, like many other Americans, really liked Death Stranding though. I’m hoping this bigger emphasis on combat won’t take away what made the first game so special

Being an Xbox player, I missed out on the original version and could only play the inferior DX version with the “Bridges Energy” or whatever it’s called. The first hour is cutscenes (classic kojimbo) and then there is the tutorial area that has no real roads and is kinda cut off from the rest of the map by a mountain. Yes, it’s autistic, but it’s a Kojima game after all, you’re supposed to get autistic with it.

I dunno what they are talking about. All I remember of the first game is constantly fighting the evil cargo cult, having to sneak through fucked zones and cthulhu monsters. Oh, and the fucking weather eating my packages. The only time I wasn't stressed to fuck was when I had roads set up and was grindan on a truck. But, by then, the area was technically cleared and I had to start another level with no roads.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Kojima's work. The rhetoric is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of advanced philosophy most of the arguments will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Kojima's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these arguments, to realize that they're not just inspiring- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Death Stranding truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the claims in Kojima's existencial catchphrase "The human body is supposed to be 70 percent water. I consider myself 70 percent film" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Kojima's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a DIRECTED BY HIDEO KOJIMA tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

You're basically forced into combat in the first game constantly or have to stealth directly through. There's no real going around possible which I didn't like. I think I made the trip to the incinerator once because its a pain in the ass to actually kill people and need to spend time burning them.

I want a lot more structures other than zip line spam which was OP. Once you made zip lines using anything else was pointless and you could almost zip everywhere door to door.

walking simulator is a derogatory term for barely interactive games in which you only press wasd while walking through scripted sequences. by that definition, death stranding is not a walking simulator. but it's obvious that discussion about a game would fail at such a fundamental level. people are retarded. and words have lost their inherent meaning and have just become noise to screech.

I think if there’s more action in this sequel, it’s decision driven by themes more than anything else. The first one was a pioneering sim so violence wasn’t the focus. This sequel, from what I’ve gleaned, focuses heavily on America’s colonial past/present as a central theme; hence more of a combat-focus.

I met Hideo Kojima yesterday.
I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “OHOOHO RAIKU U AR DOINGUH NOW??”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “NANI? NANI NANI NANI NANI” which kept the cashier waiting. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him say "ambagah des!" as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen DVD copies of Escape From New York in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to stare silently at the horizon while looking back and adjusting his glasses, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the dvds and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “BECOS AM JERFF KEERY BESTU FRENDU” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s true. After she scanned each dvd and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept receiving texts where the phone reads the sender really loudly "NEW TEXT FROM.... BOYFUREND SCHAFER"

The walking is fine, is the shitty story that's the problem

Death Stranding is more than just a walking simulator. There is so much pre-planning: managing resources and planning routes.
For example:
Put my mission cargo on my back, add some ropes, ladders, bridges and whatnot. Then hit auto arrange lmao.
Planning a route? See this river? Bring a BRIDGE. Mountains? Bring ladders and ropes. It takes a bit of practice, but it'll become second nature.
I am brought to tears as I work with my fellow porters to reunite Stranded America. I will use their ziplines and they will use my anus.
It brings me so much joy when I complete a delivery by riding a few ziplines to Ubisoft hub #69 and seeing my favourite Hollywood C-lister thank me and give me stars for my workbook.

I actually dropped the game the first time I played in the first 5 hours because everything was so convoluted story and gameplay wise, and I was not in the mood at that time.
Tried again a month ago and its one of the best games of all time for me.
I loved planning and going from point A to point B, walking, even when there were ziplines available.
Also, I think the greatest problem of this game is the slow as fuck start where you dont understand a single fuck of whats happening and you have to skip sidequests or you will never leave the first area. As soon as I stopped doing sidequests, the game clicked for me.

i'm pretty sure they reused a lot of assets (and maybe story) from the cancelled Silent Hill game they were working on. the enemies were likely going to be in that game somehow. obviously the baby was, since there was a baby in PT

Kojima Productions was never working on a Silent Hill game. Everything Kojima made for PT is property of Konami. He cannot reuse any assets from it as that would be stealing and Konami would definitely sue his ass.

Thanks for reminding me.
Death Stranding is much more than a walking simulator.
You get to.
You get to fuckin shower as Sam Porter Bridges. And look in the mirror. TAKE A DUMP. Maybe I'll throw this nugget at a beached thing later.

I mean more options for combat gameplay are welcome, i often avoided the combat in DS1 just because how limiting and kinda of meh it was.

Kuckjima has never made a game with good combat. Millennials are truly the most retarded people on Earth. Literally no other group of gamers would settle for AI that stands around shooting at you or runs at you in a straight line, lmao.

Can't wait for all you brain dead millennials with your atrophied fingers to just die already.

Dude zoomer /v/ only plays games with barely any gameplay at all, hell, you play the kind of crap 13 year old emo girls do like Deltatroon, The Coffin of Andy and Leley, Life is Strange, gacha slop and FNAF.
And lets not forget you spent half a decade crying because Doom Eternal was too fast.
