Even if it comes out - the wait has been too long. Its now confirmed shit just by "not worth the wait" alone, and the game itself might be shit regardless of that too.

I'm thinking more about the casual audience with their first metroidvania game. If you look at how other games sold, I'd say only the Ori series is the serious contender to HK. Even Metroid dread sold less than both HK and Ori.

Okay I know Dread is like 4 times more expensive than HK, but indie metroidvanias like Nine Sols or Blasphemous didn't nearly sell as much.

Have you considered the possibility these games dont have anywhere as much merit?
Its obvious HK will sell so much because after all this time, nothing actually competes with it. The only game with similar non-linear interconnected progression is Rain World, everything else is a cool world but railroaded. Nothing actually has bosses that ended up as loved, the game that goes closest to it simultaneously lives off by being "literally a blander sekiro" when it comes to its enemy design. The only setting/plot that was similary as great when it comes to metroid-likes is Blasphemous except the game was held back by literally everything else mediocre, until the sequel that simply made the combat better and worsened everything that made it special. Its not because of being a 'casual fanbase' or the 'first metroidvania for people'

Nothing competes with HK, its the fullest package for cheapest. If any game was even remotely on par with it then maybe the "people wont care about silksong because too many games came out since..." would be at all grounded on reality instead of autistic contrarianism

Personally, I say it's going to disappoint in a similar way to Cyberpunk 2077.
Namely that it can't live up to the hype no matter how good the game is because everyone's putting it on an impossible pedestal.
2077 was put that way because it was an amazing studio with an amazing IP. And the game is overall good after they fixed a mountain of bugs and issues. Well after release when nobody cared anymore.
Silksong is put that way because Hollow Knight, on top of being a very good Metroidvania, was a lot of people's first major one and cemented in them the idea of what a Metroidvania would be like, even though they've never played a Metroid or Castlevania game. Then the community folds in on itself repeatedly, becoming a thousand-fold hype katana that will literally cut the game in half no matter how good it is.

That's not the same for everyone. For me, the bosses in HK were memorable for their designs and their soundtrack. The gameplay however is the worst part (still for me).
Nine sols was the complete package for me.

It's supposed to release late this year, so don't expect anything earlier than September/October. but at the same time, don't get your hopes up over it being confirmed to release this year, since they have confirmed that it was going to release in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. I'm not believing anything until they give an actual Calendar date.
