Anon it's been nearly 2 decades, nobody involved is related to actual metroid prime. Dread's weakest link was forgettable music. There is plenty of reason to doubt that prime 4 will have a good ost.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing. I loved prime as a kid, but I'm baffled that adults in their 30s are looking at the footage from Beyond and thinking it will be decent let alone good. From my perception it looks like a 6/10 game at best. Also going back to play the prime trilogy as an adult is sobering. There are praiseworthy elements, but they are all presentation fluff. I do not trust modern nintendo to put that level of effort into a release.

Autechre was almost brought on board to do Prime 1's OST before Nintendo VETOd the idea and opted to do it inhouse. I'm not saying Prime's OST is bad but it's interesting to think about what could've got.

I've played a few more games over the last 20 years that may or may not have raised my standards for games. Lock on in an fps is unthinkable in 201X. This is a post doom eternal world and prime is still releasing a game designed around a single stick console controller. Make it make sense.

They're different games, different series, different style of FPS. Metroid Prime is barely an FPS in the traditional sense. That's no different than claiming turn-based RPG is "outdated" when real time exists.

I liked it right off the bat, won't be for everyone though. Some sections are legitimately difficult. If you aren't interested in the metroid universe you won't really care for it either.

It's a "you had to be there" kind of game.
