Automata was more about robots finding humanity and what makes a human, whereas stellar blade is about whether trusting blind faith in a higher power is self destructive or not. A lot of the themes and excerpts in the game touch up on how many irl Christians feel disillusioned by their faith failing them in their darkest times which is reflected in many of the dead people you find in the world while some cling to their beliefs even to their end.
There are also two endings where you either discard religion for the future of humanity or you end humanity for your religion.
I think this presents an interesting contrast between japan and korea. Japan is largely atheist, so nier automata's message was that mankind were the gods of the world and robots aimed to be like them. I dropped Rebirth after about 20 hours. I’ve platinumed SB. Have beaten boss rush on every difficulty. Have beaten Hard difficulty on a fresh NG save. So yeah, I’d say that I greatly prefer it to rebirth and its bloat and unsatisfying combat. Are there any skills or anything that improves parrying? Something that really annoys the shit out of me is that perfect parries don't interrupt enemy combos. Feels like an absolute dick move when you get a perfect parry on an enemy only to immediately get sucker punched by a combo you didn't see coming because the enemy's attack animation for that combo is the same as their regular single attack. Feels like at that point I might as well just dodge instead of parrying since it's more likely to keep me safe

If you look at Rebirth in a vacuum and JUST in terms of the development cost for that singular project, they probably turned a small profit, yeah.

But if you consider the entirety of the money they spent on remaking VII as a whole... then no, they're still recouping those losses. Remember that they ANNOUNCED development for Remake in fucking 2014. They had actually been working on the remake since BEFORE the launch of the PS4. And then at some point they actually OUTSOURCED development of the game to fucking CyberConnect2, and then when they saw the state of the game towards the end of the project deadline... they literally took the project back inhouse and had to restart development.

SquareEnix literally burned hundreds of millions of dollars over the course of developing Remake for about 15+ years.
