Pretty fun game if you treat it as a wacky action game rather than a survival horror, kind of like the stupider sillier version of RE4. The sequel is still better though.

A hell of a choice if you're forcing yourself, this game kinda gatekeeps itself with its storytelling and "is it/isn't it RE4?" gameplay. Good first third, generally fantastic middle third, middling final third.

The only reason why Metal Gear Solid turned out to be kino is because the entire script was translated and localized by a single American.

When Kojimbo found out how much of his Engrish script was changed and improved, he was furious and now he doesn't allow anyone to make any changes.

Anonymous No.712851108

The game does not feel particularly tense or make you worried about your inventory or health often, especially not when most bosses have one-hit kill attacks anyway. And it's hard to build atmosphere when the game feels like random setpieces with the tiniest bit of justification to tie them together. Don't take that as a pure complaint though, the game is fun as fuck but it's more of an action game than a survival horror game.

TEW's survival horror aspects only work to the detriment of it's gameplay. Oh boy I sure do love restarting from a check point cuase I didn't do a section clean enough because minmaxing is a literal requirement when the game forces you to defeat every enemy to progress instead of picking your battles and simply avoiding them to spare your ammo. You know, like a good survival horror game.

I hope you're aware that "muh difficulty" is not a functioning argument in defence of bad game design. There are survival horror games harder than TEW that are designed smartly that don't have this issue. Difficulty does not simply make a game better in of itself. Difficulty can be designed bad or it can be good just like any other aspect. What makes TEW difficulty bad is that it's not scary to have to deal with the problems it presents to you. It doesn't make combat tense. It's just tedious. Good horror should always come before good gameplay in a survival horror game and in this genre good survival horror IS good gameplay and if you don't agree, you're a zoomer. Plain and simple.

it's aight. it's definitely no RE4 tho.
some things I didn't like:
>accuracy tied to a stat.
>got caught on random geometry a few times
>has this whole stealth system but the game frequently puts you in situations where stealth is literally impossible. some enemies are scripted to automatically become aware of you, no matter how perfectly you crept up on them. some enemies spawn in and automatically know exactly where you are.

They'd just combined the best parts of 1 and 2, an Evil Within 3 could've been amazing.
