The AI in this is absurd, they just constantly pump out heroes with monster stacks of top tier units even on Easy difficulty. You kill a Hero, and he's back running around 2 turns later with 100+ Level 7 units.
What the fuck, how are you supposed to beat the AI?

You were too slow
You gotta start hunting them within the first couple weeks
Go conquer a town right away
The earlier you own multiple towns, the more army you generate over the course of the game
Also day 1 of week 1, immediately hire like 3-5 other heroes, move all their army to your main hero and just use the other heroes for scouting and resource gathering. Don't waste time on main hero exploring, just kill monsters and enemy heroes.
