I was only enough to play FFVII and knew about it when it came out but I decided against it. For almost 3 decades I called the game shit and gay every time it was brought up here. About a year ago I played and finish it and I regret everything. I fucking loved the game, and know that it would have been my favorite thing ever if I played it as a kid.

I love the way it is paced. I feel like the balance between fighting and story sections pretty much perfect. Many JRPGs fall into the WORDS WORDS WORDS or endless random battles pitfall, but FFVII somehow does neither.

The information between Cloud and Tifa is asymmetrical. When Tifa is asking if Cloud feels alright, Cloud thinks she's talking about the Reactor Bombing. When in reality, Tifa is referring to the fact that Cloud is behaving very strange, and that when she found him he jumped from a catatonic mess to proclaiming he was in SOLDIER. It's such a tiny moment that you can only appreciate on a 2nd game because Tifa's dialogue isn't a poorly translated mess. She's unsure of Cloud even this early on

They had to seriously cut down Wutai and they had no idea how Yuffie was supposed to join the party in the first place. Her joining in a random battle was a cheat to get around having to make more locations to introduce her.

Okay in defense of Remake, sort of, Remake plays up Tifa's struggling with her own trauma and inability to release tension from Nibelheim at the loss of devoting attention to how fucking weird Cloud is being. A better balance is struck in Rebirth where it initially starts with Tifa distrusting Cloud after the flashback, before learning about SOLDIER degradation and her realizing there's something seriously wrong with Cloud. Afterwhich she falls in with her OG characterization

Because theres no reason to worry.

In the original game, it is established that Tifa and cloud spoke about the past before the events of the game, which leads to tifa being worried. When cloud tells his story in Kalm, tifa already knew cloud version of events.
In the remake, this conversation hasnt happened. When Cloud says "it has been 5 years" and tifa is like "huh?", thats the first time, thats why Tifa later tries to talk to Cloud but he brushes it off like "i cant talk about it, Soldier stuff". Later in remake Tifa starts to see Cloud losing it little by little but he doesnt understand why, until the big reveal in Kalm.
