Xrd was "dumbed" down only regarding the amount of special moves each character had from the previous game and only some characters, at that. Ky and Pot lost a bunch for example but Dizzy and May still had a very expressive moveset. Movement, okizeme and neutral remained similar to XX.

I'm playing Ryza 1. I just beat the dragon on top of the tower and am level 25. It was almost no trouble at all, should I switch to Hard? Losing to the Rock Puppet once made me think Normal was fine, but now I'm not sure. I don't want the game to be an utter chore, but breezing through a boss also doesn't feel great.

I don't mind the lack of time limits but everything else needs to go. Rorona's time limit barely mattered, would have been basically the same game without it.

As a 3D engine its effective, the open world was good and the story was okay. Controls are good, map is beautiful, character models are amazing but animations could use some work. The issue is the game part of the game. Combat is so easy its pointless. Crafting is so easy its pointless. You CAN make interesting and pretty things with crafting but there is no actual reason to do anything more than a campfire in a lean-to against a rock wall.

The "main" team is directed to make the games more and more casual and it sucks, Ryza 3 played itself even on the hardest difficulty due to removing the item limit in combat and every mechanic in Yumia is babby-tier. The B team that made Sophie 2, Marie Remake and presumably the upcoming Resleriana-without-Resna are the ones that are still allowed to follow series tradition (to an extent, Atelier without time limits is still casualized as shit but they're sometimes able to make up for it elsewhere like the boss fights in Sophie 2 on max difficulty).

When you have a deadline, you weigh everything you're doing in relation to that deadline. When the number of turns that pass in battle affect how much time passes, you want to end battles faster. When gathering materials takes time, you weigh whether it's actually worth picking something up or not. When travelling takes time, you plan out your route to make the best use of your time with your limited inventory space. When crafting takes time, you have to think in your head about what items you want to make and how to make them the best they can be, and then everything else about getting the materials for them follows from that.

You take away the time limits and you take away all of the thought that goes into anything because you no longer have any reason to think. Inventory limits have no reason to exist when you can just pick up everything. You have no reason to plan how to make anything because if you don't have enough materials at any step you can pop out to get them and then go back with no loss. Sophie and Ryza stripping out time limits while having game design that's just a hollow remnant of games that had them is why those games are a boring slog.
