The cost of making games is lower than ever all the money these corporations are spending is voluntary because they want to stand out from the smaller studios and indies with large production values.
It's all a choice on their part to spend this money to make a blockbuster.
Movies don't charge more for a blockbuster movie, they just expect to sell more tickets.
AAA devs should expect the same thing it's a gamble, not a guarantee.

the stagnation of graphics and gameplay has inevitably resulted in people realizing that [2015 game] offers basically the same experience as [2025 game], except it's $10 instead of $80.

Yes but they still complain about it, even though I can clearly see on steam that they bought the game at an inflated price if they paid for the deluxe edition for 5-days of early access gaming.

The reality is people are starting to wake up to the fact that their country is destroyed and they are in fact now poor (Americans and Europeans) and it's scaring them, so they are lashing out and Nintendo. The games didn't get more expensive, your life became shittier.

Games then:
>created using inhouse engines and cutting-edge technology
>came in cartridges with specialized chips and hardware necessary for each game
>distributed in small boxes with user manuals to thousands of stores worldwide
>lowered in price over time
Games now:
>developed effortlessly with mass market engines like Unity or Unreal
>reuse 90% of assets and outsource the rest to India and China
>copy-pasted infinitely and distributed digitally at virtually no cost
>"respect the value"

Games are cheaper to produce than ever.
>B- b- but muh gwaphiks
Game budgets are as bloated as they are because they are paying huge teams hundreds of thousands of dollars just to waste work and then paying consultants millions to oversee nothing getting done.
It doesn't take more than 3 years to make a game, which means that every game that goes over time budget is likely throwing away up to several game's worth of work just because of shit management, something which is further compounded with the fact that you don't need more than 30-60 people to make a game, which means that they are then throwing away even more work for each additional person on their thousand person team.
You think horse scrotum physics are being implemented because of how advanced graphics are? No, they're being implemented because people are being left alone without any direction, thus forcing them to create something inconsequential.

These charts always conveniently ignore
1: The rising cost of living meaning people have less discretionary income even when inflation is accounted for.
and
2: The omnipresence of game rentals meant people could play games without paying anywhere close to full price.

I'm spending between 5 to 20.
To buy old games.
Mostly japanese or european games which have a 5-10 hours long range and lot of replayability. Death to western amerimutts. The last "modern" game I bought were armored core 6 and ace combat 7, I'm also interested in e.y.e. divine cybermancy 2 but other than that no modern sloppa holds my interest.
And now I'm starting zone of the enders.
That is all. Are you happy market analysts? Got any good data out of me faggots?

They were selling $65 videogames in the 90s and that isn't even considering imports and countries tariffing electronics specifically.
