Rather than tell new stories, they kept trying to recreate Sephiroth. The part that worked for Seph was as a goal and antagonist for Cloud and his failures. So the stories just rehash shit instead of doing something new. The Crisis Core story should have been as Soldier going on counter-terrorist missions, fighting Wutai jihadists, and the like. Not some gay poet.

Sort of, I was more tolerant of Genesis than Angeal personally, I feel like him mirroring Sephiroth should have mirrored Zack and Cloud, but adding a 3rd Buster Sword owner and proto-Sephiroth made it feel clunky instead.
Zack didn't really need a mentor most of the time anyway.

Getting back to Genesis my one big gripe is his whole arc just gets convoluted as it goes on, he could have just been pissed about experiments but otherwise normal. Not every villain needs to be super special, he was powerful enough.

There is a very high likelihood Gackt and Nomura have had sex.

Crisis Core ends up rehashing WAY too much from FF7, and we fundamentally learn nothing new or see anything we didn't already know. Zack also crashed through the roof of the church? Is this how she meets all her boyfriends? Oh we get AVALANCHE again. It's too tepid.

It should have been Zack being dispatched on various missions around the world as a Shinra special forces officer. More about self-contained stories than anything.

Genesis and Angeal are the worst parts of Before Crisis, and they should have kept these plots separate from the Nibelheim reactor storyline. In fact, I think they could have done several games that cover Zack's career, from beginning to end.

It should have been NEW adventures, not more Jenova-Seph shit.

Game 1:

Cheesy as trying to squeeze significance out of Loveless was, imo this was a good exit line to imply he intends to resume where he left off no matter what, but guise it as a hopeful line from a play, and the pensive look on Sephiroth's face helped sell it.

The rest of the plotting and character interactions didn't leave as much of an impression, but still, for a second it was nearing Legacy of Kain tier spite driven drama.

Honestly this is the biggest missed opportunity in CC. They had a prime setting to show SOLDIER as a military unit, not a LARP troupe quoting poetry mid-fight. Imagine a tight, stealth-heavy op in Wutai jungles, Zack dealing with rogue AVALANCHE cells or even Shinra war crimes—stuff that builds his disillusionment naturally. Instead we got overdesigned fujobait monologuing about dumb fanfiction poetry. They nuked all subtlety in favor of anime melodrama.

It's nomura and I am 100% sure that he was either having sex with Gakt or wanted to. The secondary goal was to re-create a Sephiroth clone so that he could be an antagonist in the next game that was never made, but they just focused on the superficiality of a Jenova infused soldier who's a bishi pretty boy.

omg the obvious conflict with Tseng is right there. Tseng tells Zack to stay away from that girl, she's under Shinra protection, and Zack tells him to buzz off. Instead, Zack and Tseng have a love-fest over who can protect Aerith more.

The game is still knee-deep in Turk love (the ONLY Shinra group that gets any redemption) when they should be the shady CIA of the group doing the worst actions.

Go to Wutai and fuck up some insurgents with the blessing of a conflicted Godo.

I will always hate him because Sephiroth said in the original Final Fantasy 7 that he suspected he was not normal among his friends. But Crisis Core shows that Sephiroth's childhood friends are Angeal and Genesis two dudes who are the same, Jenova Cells human hybrids funded by Shinra. So Genesis existing ruins Sephiroth's background.

Genesis himself is also an extremely annoying character because he insists on talking like a schizo obsessed with his stupid opera play. And the third reason I hate Genesis is that ultimately his schizo lunacy is validated because Genesis meets his random Goddess that Final Fantasy 7's universe never had. So now all of a sudden the least mystical and least fantastical FF game universe has a Goddess? This is all shit. All so that Genesis feels "justified" in his lunacy. And even worse is how the hacks who made Genesis said that Genesis in the future of the timeline for FF7 is destined to become the hero and savior of the world.

I just don't like anything about Genesis and what he represents. He is trash. And he being the only FF7 character whose likeness is bad on an actual J-Pop singer further takes me out of it. Genesis being Gack's self insert is another negative.

Genesis is a bad idea entirely.

Dirge is terrible. That game only made me glad that Vincent got c ucked by Hojo. Vincent was revealed to be a terrible bum who only got his job because his father gave him preferential treatment. And then when Vincent's father gets killed Vincent doesn't mind because Lucretia killed his father. So its karma that Hojo cock blocked Vincent.

And I just don't care about the characters like the Magical Loli Who Never Ages or her stupid disabled blind one arm sister and now there's a random new WEAPON that no one knew about and how it can harvest all life to go to a new galaxy its all FUCKING STUPID!!! The entire story of the game can be summarized like this "Why did this even get made? Its stupid even for fiction."

And the gameplay handles worse than Ratchet and Clank. You read correctly Ratchet and Clank has better gunplay than Vincent's game. Final Fantasy 7 Dirge of Cerberus loses to a cartoony cutesy mascot.

Crisis Core should have just been about Zack and Sephiroth, ala Rockman X style. Also, Aeirth too, but she should be regulated to support character. I never got the impression Zack was that interested in her in the original game
