The fuck are you talking about? The best writers have always been ones that were worldly and inspired by their experiences and culture, not the ones with carefully cultivated existences from university.

Rpgs back then was made by people who played tabbletop rpgs and wanted to recreate a similar experience in a video game.
RPGs now are made by people who grew up on role playing games but hardly played tabbletop. They want to emulate the experience you got while playing RPGs but they know nothing about actually offering good mechanics
