>>712877846>but not booksReading helps increase comprehension, and aren't as predicated on being sheer entertainment. Vidya, it's always about fun fun fun, or a mechanical challenge to surpass, and the average /v/irgin will pitch a fit the instant a dev says "yeah we're not focused on 'fun' or appealing to the hardcore." Books can be challenging reads, but it's nevertheless about conveying ideas, experiences, sentiments, themes, etc. etc. for you to think about, not to just entertain you to pass the time. Even pure, fantastical fiction without much grander meaning can usually considered more enriching because picturing the apple has a greater effect on your mind than vidya, where it's all about how engaging it is to take the apple you see right in front of you and slice it in half
>tv/moviesPeople do absolutely talk like that about TV and Movies, just only if you're "into" TV and Movies. If one was to venture why things are different with vidya, it's probably playing them at all is seen as being "into" them, whereas seeing a TV or Movie is just a passive "show" (and hence why it's looked down upon if you're "into" them). Once again, this aligns with what /v/irgins wants, saying that anything small or casual isn't actually video games and thus directly feeding the perception that even the most casual vidya is shutin nerd shit.
