I replayed this recently with a friend, it's not that great. Solid fun overall but there's too many turret sections, the entire swamp and temple section sucks and the first Wesker fight is literally a waste of time.

It was met largely with "great" "this game looks like real life" "shittier forced coop re4" and "8/10"
Not panned in anyway just horribly disappoint as a follow up to re4 (again feeling like a worse greatest hits version). I, however, remember burning the Japanese demo to a disc and somehow getting it to play on my 360 and putting TWENTY HOURS into the demo. Then they released that demo with dd2 iirc and I did the same. Then having my mind blown by every trailer with Wesker.

It is the first woke game though. Sheva being hot doesn't change that. Just difference in ideals of the times. Back then sexy women were empowered. Now we're going back to that a bit after ten years of stellar blade literally kills women and trannies. Make no mistake. Sheva. The black forced coop partner who replaced Barry and jills roles in the story and killed of the series' main villain never to be seen again was absolutely a forced in addition due to the cries of racism after the first and second trailers. Re5 was ruined due to this. But it's still great. Just not what it could have been. I doubt the remake would go back to past drafts either considering 2 3 4 didn't much at all.

It was also largely excused for the lack of content compared to re4 because it's the first next gen / HD resident evil. This is a major deal that zoomers just can't grasp. It was when development flipped and became 1000000x more expensive so it was "okay"

I like 5 but the campaign is way too short and it's not like it's a good throughout. Obviously the trash turret section followed by the worst boss of the game. Speaking of bosses they are all gimmick trash, literally not a single good one and no Wesker having meme lines doesn't make it any better. RE7 should have had a real protagonist like Grace.
RE8 should have come after RE4R and featured that RE7 protag alongside agent Ashley in the role of Chris in the game.
That's how you send off your OG cast properly while building a new one that isn't completely disconnected.

there is a relatively complex movement system, but the campaign absolutely never let you use it, ever, constantly taking your ability to play to make you watch some "cool" setpiece.
But at the same time, when you can finally fuck around in Mercenaries, you see it's a bit shallow, there had to be some limitations for story mode. You can feel the conflicting objectives of different capcom's teams during development.
there are 4 storylines, but all the missions are the same, I honestly thought I already did Ada's and forgot about it when I did it. Someone certainly had some ambitions (It is built like a Hollywood blockbuster after all) but ultimately couldn't deliver, probably budget constraints and capcom's shuffling of executives at the time
