The story is pretty bland and you never find anything interesting in the emails. Would have benefited from the pulpy tone of the original, instead of the dry, po-faced approach they took.

bit tedious, or am i retarded?

>forgettable characters
>story isn't that interesting
>pacing is whack, third act was clearly cut
>final boss is just some thug

But the gameplay is an genuine improvement over the first in pretty much every way (wish they brought back a few more things from the original but it gets close) and the artstyle is an genuine 10/10, this is what a Deus Ex prequel should look like. A real mixed bag. High highs, low lows.

The first sold a lot & in the case of the sequel did everything within their power to stillbirtth the sequel leading up to the launch & worst of all cut the game in half. It was basically an extravaganza of things that would make the intented audience not buy the game. Its like they went through a checklist of things they could do to ensure it'd flop and did all of them.

Everyone loves to blame Squenix but even cut content aside the game has problem.
>lots of screen clutter just for the sake of it (because we can afford now duh) so they had to introduce vision augmentation to fix the problem they created
>it feels like half of the quests boil down to constant traveling between upper and lower Prague
>Vega who were supposed to be impulsive non-stop swearing gunblazing latina was turned into smug annoying mutt

MD story was meh because it was building into a sequel that never happened.

The game itself is just a better version of HR.

most game journos dont even bother playing games to full completion
its all reviews based on the impressions from the first couple of hours
thats why some actual good games get poor scores and shallow games get great scores
thats the gist anyway and your answer

>game has piss filter
>game takes place in a mega city
>piss particulates probably flying around everywhere
>every street probably smells like a mcdonalds bathroom
when you think about it the piss filter was even more brilliant than we originally gave it credit for.

when you got to the end of the game on that oil tanker or whatever at the end of the 360 game and youre out in the ocean, the piss filter should have gone away because its the first time adam has smelled clean crisp air before

to be fair very often they can't, they get the game a few days or less before having to get the article out while having to do other shit for the publisher they work at
not saying this to cover their asses, but it's also largely the industry's fault

Mankind Divided is some of their best work in terms of pure gameplay. Plot wasn't satisfying
>HR deeply integrates transhumanism into everything they do
>But they wanted to do a mechanical apartheid plot
>Dissect the story, leave the ending of HR1 a mystery instead of picking an ending
>Feels disconnected as a result

I just didn't buy that augmented people were an entirely different race, given how clearly the first game established it as a societal trend. But there they were, outright saying 'racism' to describe the discrimination at work. It's one of those things that doesn't feel right but most people won't be able to say why.

Which is a pity, because some of the setups and payoffs it did were great

Combat controls are somewhat weird on PC
Persuasion system isn't very intuitive
MD is too short
Silenced pistol and tranq rifle make other weapons obsolete outside of boss fights.

MD is esily 30 hours long if you explore everything and do the sidequests. Worth playing even when the main story doesn't get fully resolved, which probably would have been some asspull to connect it to DX1 anyway.

Now that I think about it, the supporting cast was way weaker in MD.
There's a good reason they brought back Pritchard in DLC, because he was cool and memorable and felt connected to Jensen. Vega? All anyone cared about Vega was she got blackwashed. Your commander Jim was cool but he was just the boss figure, just one part of the ensemble. The only other friendly character I remember is the therapist who ended up being ||Page's mole||. It always felt like a intermediary group, like Jensen's coworkers in a job he was gonna quietly ditch after a year or two

No wonder people got happy over the little scene implying Malik's alive and well

it came out during "that" era when woke stuff was very subtle.
I even saw this subtleness in skyrim's plot.
I found it to be retarded back then and just thought that we are getting a wave of fresh inexperienced writers.
oh how wrong I was.

This was the real nail in the coffin, as it's a vibe that permeated through the marketing. Squeenix wanted to milk it with DLC expansions instead of letting the devs make a satisfying story for the base game. The guy you fight is the most they could do, but no one really cared, because we all knew he was an intermediary fight. Jensen's beef isn't with him, it's with the Illuminati, but we don't get to touch them in the base game and we clearly were never going to

As much as the aug ability is expanded in MD, I'm pretty salty that the weapon varieties are stagnant. Most, if not all of them are weapons from HR and it's not even a complete selection either.
