Now that Switch 2 has the ability to run some games at high resolution and frame rates, there's no need to pretend that emulators are worse than Switch 1 anymore. I played BOTW at 20-30 fps with resolution dropping to 500p at times on Switch 1, and I played TOTK at 1440p/60fps perfectly on Ryujinx. The second experience was vastly superior. Switch users are realizing this now by playing the same games with decent image quality and performance, so it's time to admit that yes, graphics matter, processing power matters, and the emulators were superior to Switch 1 (at least for big games, because yes, there are games that don't run well on emulators).

This, even a $200 laptop can emulate N64 games and up to PS2 quality. PC just isn't a good investment if you want to emulate older gen games. Mario Kart is Nintendo's biggest franchise and they were able to to release one as a launch game. Every console launch is limited to 1 or 2 exclusives and the rest being multiplat or crossgen games. The Wii and Switch launched with a crossgen gamecube and Wii U Zelda game posed as an exclusive and a mini game collection, the PS4 launched with Killzone and fucking Knack. Launches are generally weak, and this is far from the weakest launch. It also helps that Mario Kart is a replayable game and not a single player game you just finish. If you don't like Mario Kart you don't need to buy a Switch 2 at launch, there are millions that do.

They're a single player game and once you understand the boss mechanics they're pretty straight forward. I don't know that you could compare it to a multiplayer game where every race is different and unique. I also generally do not find that type of game fun or engaging.

I should also say PC gaming is worth the investment if you want to get into competetive multiplayer games: Rocket League, CS GO, League of Legends, Fortnite, etc, where framerate can be the difference between a win and a loss. But I'm not interested in competetive multiplayer games. I like low stakes fun party multiplayer games, that's why yes, I have sunk hundreds of hours into Mario Kart over the years.

It’s mostly a visual and QoL upgrade. Uncompressed assets, new lighting, sharper UI—all that jazz. Runs at a locked 60fps now too, which makes a huge difference in battles. They also revised the job progression menu so it's not a complete clusterfuck to navigate. Nothing game-changing, but it's probably the best way to replay it if you already liked the original.
