Lets start out with chinas main claim being that they have 1.4 billion
Its VERY funny that the first thing that comes up is jewgles AI screaming "NOTHING TO SEE HERE DONT LOOK INTO THIS" while also admitting there are "discussions" underway about the accuracy of chinas population numbers.
Its a jumbled mess of a reply as well.
looking through yandex (because google made it clear it was gonna cook the webresults) there were two studies in 2018, one by russians, one by japanese, that both independently estimated the chinese pop at 800 million (meaning my 700 million was wrong)
the japanese study is the one using table salt.
fuck it. this website is probably full of shit but it has some of the data from a more recent chinese based study. https://leisrealtalk.com/chinas-population-crisis-why-the-1-4-billion/
so this new study, from the China Business Industry Research Institute, conviniently both finds that there is an overstated amount of people... but ALSO decides that china is just under a billion anyways, as of 2022, at 982 million.
No way they get to publish anything showing government corruption without government approval because its china, so we can assume those numbers are cooked.
Supposedly china is ALSO getting falsified data from fake birth certificates, and THAT started in the 1980s. However, their vaccine data was a good indicator of how many of those births were real... which stopped being published in 2022.
Same year as the cooked chinese population study being released.
There is a bit going over the decreased amount of people going home on new years (500 million less) but the article might be overlooking changes made in the wake of covid.
Because the BIG reason covid exploded early on in china was the chinese new year spreading it EVERYWHERE over their transit systems as people went around the country to their hometowns.
and it looks like at some point a hacker got data of citizen records, only 970 million.
