I'll tell you why the game is good even though I know this is probably bait and you won't read it; because he was passionate in his execution and idea. The actual gameplay loop was somewhat refreshing and unique (the balancing-walking delivery simulator that everyone likes to talk shit on) in a sea of bullshit gameplay loops that nobody bats an eye at.
Let's look at Red Dead Redemption as a comparison; the gameplay besides the actual traversal of the world is essentially 'shoot guy, steal wagon' and that's it. You're either knocking some guy out and bringing him back on the horse, killing him and taking his stagecoach or basically killing him and his whole gang. Those are the loops. Online introduced the naturalist job which involves some hippy lady getting mad as fuck if you kill animals at all, but how does her gameplay loop of 'collect the DNA from the animals' play out? Did they add some cool traps and an entire side game of trapping/hunting without killing? No, what you do is run down the animal - sometimes as small as a raccoon, shooting it with 'sedatative' .22 ammo usually 10+ times until it ragdolls and you get to 'take a sample' of it and 'revive' it which involves you see Arthur preform the same kneeling animation he does when he skins something, just without the skinning. The entire game is just shooting things and stealing wagons/people. It's not a bad game (RDR) but nobody bats a fucking eye at the gameplay loops while Death Stranding gets all this flak for deviating outside the norm.

The Death Stranding story is stupid convoluted bullshit like Final Fantasy or any other weird fantasy but it's also weird and interesting but invests you into the characters through beating you over the head with dialogue and cutscenes (like RDR) so eventually you're mildly enjoying your walking simulator while just trying to see where the fuck the story goes. The world looks good and walking around feels good and actually has a gameplay loop inside it.

When I take on a delivery I’ll drive down the road as close as I can get to the destination and then continue the rest of the way on foot. Death Stranding is also the kind of game that appeals to people who are particularly autistic, so I don’t get why such people impose imaginary barriers on themselves and then complain about it. My position is that DS sucks. So I am going to give examples on why it sucks. You need to give examples of why DS is GOOD and so far I haven't read any except for "unique" which isn't really a good point anyway.

You haven't addressed my earlier points on why DS is BAD. Holding triggers to not fall is boring non-gameplay because it is trivial. Scanning the area already tells you what is safe and not safe to step on. That is boring. The balancing mechanics disappearing entirely after vehicles is boring. You're watching an interactive movie.

BTs and mules are trivialized once you get the tools to deter them. But before that happens, they just slow you down and waste your time. The boss fights scatter all your cargo so you can pick them up. That is as fun as 52-pickup.

Infrastructure. You complete missions on foot to earn the resources to build roads, charging stations, and ziplines. You do that because it lets you skip the game of walking. That is a chore. You're subconsciously admitting that walking sucks and something must be done so the activity can be automated. The end goal is you and other porters pave the landscape with public transport so you can fast travel between ubisoft hubs. So you can get stars and likes, and expository dialogue from a Hollywood C-lister.

In reality this is what death stranding really is:

>Interact with the menu, pick up every delivery you can that isn't "go to x area and pick up lost cargo and return" or timed missions unless its on the way
>Pick the truck, load all the cargo into the truck
>drive to the closest delivery
>park truck right outside the entrance to the bunker
>interact with menu, deliver items
>select as many new deliveries as you can fit inside the truck
>drive to next location
>rinse and repeat

This is 90% of the game. There's 0 reason to make deliveries on foot in death stranding. You don't even need to "plot out the route" lol, you never ONCE need to do this in the game, you just drive the truck in a straight line to get to where you go, any terrain you just avoid or go around, once you get the roads built up you just use those until you need to go offroad.

Even in the snowy mountain areas with the bunkers all the way up the mountains, you can drive the truck up there too, in fact you will learn all the appropriate routes to climb up the mountains in the truck as you do the deliveries. It's the fastest, easiest, most efficient way to do it. Any time the truck gets low on battery or damage you just find someone's safehouse and charge it up / repair it there.

The BTs always spawn in the same areas, you will learn where they are as you play and just avoid those areas, or speed through on the trike / truck and not get caught by them. I rarely even needed to fight them.

As for the Mules, they're not just random encounters, they're only in their camps and they're pretty clearly marked on the map, they only ever spawn in the same areas and you can just knock them all out and it will be a little while until they respawn.

My main issue with the game actually was that you couldn't do that with BTs. They respawn INSTANTLY after you kill the main BT that drags you around. So fucking annoying to take out a BT walk 5 feet and then the rain comes back instantly and they're all respawned if you needed to go back through the area.

I liked the Cliff fights though, but they did get old and lasted a little bit too long and felt out of place by the end of it.
