Depends. You can blur the line by being partially worn and partially piloted like landmates. Otherwise it's just big power armor and minimecha. Like votoms or even obselete are about as small as you can go while still having an enclosed piloting seat.

It's a couple steps in the right direction of at least playing with some serious firepower but you're still a goon with permission to call down artillery. You're still just a military guy who sprints away from the bugs while screaming your head off.

And them pretty deliberately making the mechs fairly shitty is an issue. It's like the last thing for them to unfuck from their "it's supposed to be bad" days and displays how much they don't want you feeling tough or anything.

It's impressive how many things it got right for the very basic elements of moving and loadouts and stuff and then every single other part of the game was a complete detriment to that. The coolest player character in the worst written looter shooter with the worst stats and progression system.
