Final Fantasy Tactics remake wont include War of the Lions content. Why?

They lost the source code lol
Stupid useless fucking cunts. I'm not buying the remaster now. I loved the access to Dark and Onion Knight, the former especially. It took a lot to unlock so it wouldn't spoil shit for those who wanted the original experience. You can just NOT unlock/use it. I hate how they act like they're doing some justice for for the original but not adding in optional bonus content you get through grinding. Have OPTIONS is always fucking better.
Fuck these useless stupid cunts.
Home come everything time I hear of a Square Enix game it's bad news?

>>712921702Good compatibility = more healing, more damage, higher chance to land buffs/status ailments/revives.
Bad compatibility = less healing, less damage, lower chance to land buffs/ailments/revives.
Good compatibility with party members is good to have because it means you're less likely to miss things like Haste, Protect, and Raise while also restoring more health with Cure and Chakra.
Bad compatibility with bosses is often preferred to good compatibility; Since they're typically immune to things like Frog regardless, good compatibility won't help you land them at all whereas it will help the boss land Frog and Death Sentence and Petrify on you. You take less damage, which means healing up is easier than with good compat, and you deal less damage which doesn't matter as much because the majority of bosses don't equip Item or White Magic so you can chip away at them without worrying about them healing up.
Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio contain some of the best party members; Agrias, Orlandu, Rafa, Reis (+Luso in WotL) making any of the 3 a prime candidate for Ramza.
Gemini, Libra and Aquarius are sort of the "B" team; Mustadio, Malak, Beowulf, Worker 8, Cloud for a decent party, and Gemini has bad compatibility with a lot of bosses making it very defensive.
Saggitarius, Leo and Aries have 0 party members unless you're playing WotL where you get Balthier as your only Leo. This is why I'm hopeful for the ability to recruit Delita (Saggitarius) and Alma (Leo) to make the otherwise unimpressive Aries Ramza actually viable.
Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo only have Meliadoul, plus they have Good compatibility with most of the bosses, making Ramza much more fragile against fights like Gafgarion, Wiegraf, Velius, and the final boss.

>>712917602The PS1 version came out when translations were less polished and prone to errors both grammatically and in localization.
It wasn't too far removed from the works of Ted Woosley and whatever ESL Jap did FF4. Remember that they viewed games as being exclusively for kids then so they'd change pubs to cafes, beer to juice, etc.

These mistakes are then used to justify a whole sale conversion of the dialogue, when only refinements and tweaks were needed.
>WotL not only fixes these, it gives the game a better flairEat a Negro dick. The WotL devs saw the story was full of drama so they felt it was "Shakespearean" so they re-wrote the dialogue in that style. >>712930072>It's a flowery poetic kind of speech from Shakespeare's plays that the game is trying to emulateGuess what?
The storyline of the game is just a play performed by characters in FFXIV.
The story really ended with Ultima being too powerful to be stopped and only being able to be sealed away by Mustadio, Agrias and Orlandeau becoming Lucavi until the Warrior of Light was able to join forces with them and defeat her once and for all.
The play was written with certain liberties by Jenomis Sen Lexentale (real name: Arazlam Durai) and performed by his children Ramza bas Lexentale and Alma bas Lexentale.
The story of the game was just a play.

Nu-square enix is fucking retarded, i hope they goes bankrupt while i'm alive.
Can't wait to see how they butcher an all time classic.
>>712931669They would, storage space is easy now becuase HDD are cheap, but these work stations would have only tens of GB of HDD storage. The assets (CGI, textures, backgrounds, music, etc) would be the biggest and would take many HDD per game to store. Then pile that up for hundreds of games.
The in-game CGIs are heavily compressed, but these files would be many GB in size. The associated 3D files would be big too.
So Square would ask: rent out storage space for useless junk or not? It had no value to them. There's also this lack of futureproofing mindset, where if you want to play Final Fantasy 6 or 7, you'd get a SFC or a PS1, regardless of the time period. Games were still new, so someone playing DQ on a Famicom in 1997 wasn't that strange.
>>712931857That's FF14 shit right? Matsudo has had several sequel ideas running around, and the supposedly canon sequel idea is from some stupid card game where Ramza and Alma get involved in some other country's political shit, and Delita sends forces to confront Ramza.

>>712935424It bothers me a lot that the remaster isn't using the Android sprites but alternative touch ups. Guess we'll have to see if modders can fix that.
speaking of that, did people really not like the extra content in gba/psp remakes of the first 6 ff games? People could just like... not do them. I ignored the word play labrynth in the psp remake of 2. its weird seeing people praise content get cut in the pixel remasters and now fft
>>712935815I’ve never heard of that. Personally the wind dungeon was my favorite thing in FF1 GBA had some really cool areas
>>712935815It's kind of a weird thing where it's rather variable. FF1, some bosses from other games and a superboss where the original kind of lacked one, but nothing groundbreaking. FF2, an entire extra story and final boss that serves as sort of a sendoff for the deceased cast, really depends on you liking FF2 enough to care. FF4, superbosses from other games and a free select of party members in the end game, kind of a superficial extension. FF5, three new jobs, more superbosses with one being tied to the backstory lore, not much to say but a lot of people hate those jobs not being carried forward despite them all being gimmicks. And FF6.. more superbosses, with one being a finished version of a dummied out boss that went unused from the original.
The games are complete enough without all of this, with only the FF2 extra story and FF4 selectable party finale stuff really meaning anything. For those who care about post/end-game bonuses and stuff to really sink their teeth into for an ultimate challenge, it sucks that it's all missing in the Pixel Remasters. To those that care more for nostalgia or just the straight game experience, it really doesn't matter for most of the rest of the content at all.

>>712935815Half of the posts on this board are larping zoomies picking ridiculously extremist positions in any given debate, which they think makes them look like sophisticated veteran gamers, but just outs them as clueless retards to anyone who has actually lived through the stuff they are only talking about. That's how you get schizos like ACfag claiming that every game other than Tetris and Pacman is basically a visual novel, or the retard in this thread saying additional, optional content in a re-release is bad because it wasn't in the original (which was released 5+ years before he was born).
The content in FF5 GBA especially was great, the new jobs were fun and the game really needed an actually proper challenging optional endgame, even Omega and Shinryu were jokes if you had any Idea what you were doing.
>>712935815I think the only bad one was the GBA FFIV and that was because it was even buggier than the original release.
>>712916721Bootlickers that go "Oh I don't care about the extra classes because I didn't like them" are the same people that go "Who cares that they spy on you if you have nothing to hide?"
>>712931162>square’s short sighted incompetence. Here's the thing you need to understand: it wasn't just Square. Old Sonic source code? Gone, they've done entirely emulation or relied on fans to rebuild the games from scratch. Silent Hill? You saw that HD collection, that was beta builds and shit the team had to slap together themselves very poorly, there's no longer any finished sources for those games. Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne? Oopsie, gotta rebuild the game in Unity and hope we get it right (we didn't), and the same exact thing is seemingly happening to Raidou because they rebuilt the game from the ground up instead of simply using the old pre-renders.
While many 90's/00's devs lost their code, Japanese devs were ESPECIALLY infamous for doing it over and over and over again. In fact, they actually had a specific work habit of literally building their next game directly on top of what code they had, without backups for what came before, so by the time you start looking backwards they realize they can't just lolwinditback to what they'd need. This happened with Sonic Team and the Hedgehog Engine / HE2 stuff, they basically disemboweled geometry streaming that was in the engine since Unleashed to Generations so they could make more compartmentalized levels in Lost World for the Wii U, and that shit carried over to their next iteration of the engine where tons of hardcoding and weird bullshit has lingered in the Sonic game engines since 2013.

>>712937821There's a discussion in parallel in this thread about Square throwing away the source code and assets of their old games, and it's like a microcosm of the development of the industry as a whole how they went from not even thinking they would touch one of their older games ever again in the 90s, to just rehashing their older titles endlessly with less and less effort put into it each time nowadays. If you'd told 90's Square that this would be the future of their company, they would've called you insane.
>>712916714>>712916941>They lost the source code>"keeping that kind of data wasn't a normal thing to do at the time." Not saying it isn't stupid to not keep the source code, but they didn't "lose" it like someone lost their house keys. Don't be disingenuous even if it's still retarded logic.
>>712937412>>712938642So one thing I can imagine is that there ARE alternative solutions, but publishers seem anathema to it. You can reverse engineer code and it takes a few years but you can do it. Imagine in 2008, Square, Capcom, Konami, etc just decided this was a problem, hired a bunch of western nerd boys and paid them a pittance to reverse engineer the codes in many of their games, and then re-released the games once it's done. You'd have a steady stream of new reverse engineered games coming out every few years.
Although it wouldn't cost much, it isn't "fast". If they want a re-release, they want it in a certain time limit. I mean, imagine if they started a reverse engineering project with some FFT nerds in 2015. They'd for sure be done by now.

CDs, especially back in the day, were especially prone to disc rot. Most CDs were not designed to last longer than 10 years. You have to have your own cold storage to hold these backups to make sue they don't just deteriorate. This is why Nintendo has basically every ROM that they ever had their hands on, they can afford to maintain them. Someone like Square which had NUMEROUS financial issues over the course of the 30+ years of existence...didn't.

Square Enix is the LEAST consistent of all the Japanese publishers. Sometimes they get everything right, sometimes they massively fuck it up. I'm still salty that
>FFIV Pixel RemasterDid not include GBA content, nor content from one of the "optimal" versions of the game which is PSP Complete Collection or 3D Remake. Also I'm twice as fucking annoyed that 3D Remake when it finally came to PC lacked JP audio - you need a fucking MOD to fix it because they couldn't be bothered to code a switch to pick voice language despite the content being there - its a fuckup left over from the iOS/Android port (and that shouldn't have happened either; you could hav given people the chance to pick the language rather than just grab the local of the mobile device etc)

>>712942189Collection of Mana, not the remakes. Adventure/Secret/Trials of Mana were all done to give Studio XEEN something to do and boost popularity for Mana mobile game (rip in piss, lmao), while Collection could exist because Nintendo keeps the ROMs in cold storage. Hence why it is still Switch only.
>>712942346It does come down to the fucking HYDRA that is Square Enix and all their subsidiaries. >>712942441Good thing to also remember that Nintendo and Square weren't friends in the 90s. The Nintendo Playstation flop and Nintendo 64 sticking with cartridges REALLY DID drove a wedge between the companies.
And before you ask, Sony's not much better at keeping track of their games either, hence why the PS3 ports of games like Ratchet, Jak and Sly Cooper are BEYOND FUCKED. It's hard to remove their load-bearing Esoteric PS2 Tech from within when you don't have the Source Code.

A FFT with more maps and side content would be better than WOTL pretty easily.
man, how come SaGafag and DQfags get good remakes/remasters when we dont get shit. for what is one of their best non mainline titles they sure as fuck did a shit job with this, not even factoring the clusterfuck that is the pixel remasters for the mainline games
>>712943521They aren't. What we've seen so far just isn't good signs.
>A FFT with more maps and side content would be better than WOTL pretty easily.Sure, but them doing any of that remains to be seen. Why speculate on things they might or may not do? Instead you just criticize what you know so far.
>>712942842Nobody who has learned the Japanese language could ever maintain the position retards in these threads hold, because if they spoke Japanese, they would've realized that to anyone coming from a western literary tradition, the average Japanese dialogue writing has all the flavor of a particularly dry kitchen appliance instruction manual, and good Japanese writing requires a deep immersion into actual Japanese culture and mindset (not just shounen and morshit anime and JRPGs) to appreciate.
Basically, these kind of posts just self-select for clueless retard posters.
>>712943521>I feel like some group of people is blatantly trying to “get ahead of the narrative” and decided the game is bad (no matter what). A FFT with more maps and side content would be better than WOTL pretty easily. There's no new content only some adjustments that includes some more dialogue from named characters in battle. There was a famitsu article on this.
lol if you think this will include anything not already shown.
>>712943781>>712942842Japanese is complicated and I never knew where to start and never felt that I could actually learn it. I lack self-confidence to actually beliieve that I can do anything.
>>712943521Everything they showed so far points at this being a lazy cashgrab. They took the psx original added VA, a fancy UI and easy mode and called it a day.
>>712943781>the average Japanese dialogue writing has all the flavor of a particularly dry kitchen appliance instruction manualSounds like you also don't know Japanese because any subtleties and connotations are lost on you.
>>712943885The Genki textbooks. That's it. Read them, do the exercises, then play some simple games.
>>712943803Ok so if this is true
>the game has full VA and more dialogue for story characters>you can’t play as one completely useless class and one that requires an excessive amount of grindingKind of sucks and I’d like more since I don’t care about VA but doesn’t justify this ridiculous doomposting
>>712944265Matsuno is a fag and he should have chose to edit this material down, like re-working Dark knights and onion knights.
Seeing them talk about FF16 and how they need to talk to them about the new UI shows how clueless they are. The only big improvement is the addition of the turn order without having to select as separate menu for it. The new UI is very bland and smart phone looking.
Not buying this game until it goes on sale and modders add in WOTL. Matsuno and his team is on an ego trip and took out WOTL content just because they didn’t make it
>>712943521Every single piece of information so far has outright talked about the removal of content, or confirmed the lack of new content. Between this and Squenix abysmal track record in recent years with the pixel remasters, why would there be any reason to assume they would suddenly announce the addition of content that they failed to point out in any of the initial press releases, outside of a desperate cope?
>>712944504That's probably it, but the exact reasoning is that FFT original is narratively and gameplay complete enough and it's the version most people know. yeah, people aren't up on the PSP port, so what?
>>712944504What was the WOTL content anyway?
The Balthier and Luso showing up and the extra dark dragon health sponge boss for the dragon lady and Beowulf's story?
Outside of the two meh classes I mean.
>>712941056No you suck cock.
Some remasters and remakes are fine, stop pretending you're some old guard who played the OG's.
>>712944587Taking out optional content on a remake/remaster will never fly for me. Anyway, modded wotl will still be the definitive edition for me until we get something like the tweak mod on steam. Hopefully the game becomes dirt cheap after a year
>>712944682>What was the WOTL content anyway? This and this? Or this and that? Oh and this? Meh.
>>712944813Did you have a stroke?
>>712944880I'm rephrasing your post by using a meme arrow anon. Tell me where you got confused.
>>712944813>Its good to have less content because I, the anon that has the final say on everything decided its bad
>>712944102>Sounds like you also don't know Japanese because any subtleties and connotations are lost on you.I guess Dekinai-chan was right, (you) don't even speak English. I pointed out how subtleties are present in good Japanese writing right in the next sentence.
I'm also not saying that the average Japanese writing is bad - for a Japanese audience. But they have different expectations and attitudes when it comes to writing. If you don't know enough about Japanese to understand even this much, your opinion in anything related to it is inconsequential.
>>712945027Nta
I care so little about the stuff from WoTL that my reaction to its exclusion is “damn that sucks I liked recruiting Behemoth in the Luso fight to get them early”
>>712945247Ok. Given the choice of Ivalice Chronicles without WotL's content, and Ivalice Chronicles with WotL's content, which one would you choose.
>>712945364But the remaster doesn’t have WoTL content
>Original chef came back and took out the new type of cheese they added in to your favourite meal
>Still charges the same price
>”Fine with me, I didn’t even like that cheese”
This basically sums it up
>>712945451Kek. I set myself up for that.
>>712945484Cheese will be added back by modders and then they will act like this was the best cheese in the world. It keeps repeating itself.
>>712945484I'm vegan so I don't eat cheese anyway
>>712945230You said, and I quote
>because if they spoke Japanese, they would've realized that to anyone coming from a western literary tradition, the average Japanese dialogue writing has all the flavor of a particularly dry kitchen appliance instruction manual,This is a blanket, hand-wavey statement that someone who doesn't read books in English and can't read books in Japanese would say to try to generalize all Japanese game and manga writing as simple and boring while still leaving the door open to praise their (perceived) high literature.
>I'm also not saying that the average Japanese writing is bad - for a Japanese audience.See this right here? This means nothing. You're creating pointless dichotomies to essentially hedge your bets on what you're calling good writing in bad because you're trying to maintain the position that someone who reads English literature couldn't possibly find Japanese game prose interesting. That's a position that only someone who doesn't actually read Japanese would take.
>>712945484Love myself some food analogies.
In any case, it's more like:
>Restaurant comes under new management >Adds free dessert option to existing popular meal>Management changes again>Removes free dessert option, still charges the same price>Anon enters restaurant, goes up to every customers' table separately and tells them how this is actually a good thing because he personally didn't like the dessert
>>712942902>Dragon Quest X and FFXIV moneyI'll never understand how they don't bring DQX to the West; not even the offline or small group version, but it should be the online version. People would buy if it was worthwhile and a decent localization. FFXIV is one hell of a fuck up and I hate their monetization - its obvious that policies like always having new Mog Store stuff to buy is obnoxious as fuck and even more so the
>here's a Minion , emote, or outfit that you can ONLY get if you buy the artbook, LP soundtrack, or a $350 statue! >Also, in game holidays and events dont let you unlock shit from past years when they come around again, you miss it you pay big money PER PIECE, atop the new costumes, orchestreon songs, housing shit , mounts, and even fucking EMOTES you pay out the ass to get. Not counting all the shit that's just plain exclusive if you weren't here before etc There are other issues but its obvious they seem to squeezing every fucking cent out of FFXIV to make up for their other failures and players pay the price.
>>712946094Actually I'm going up to everyone telling them that the meal was complete as it was originally and that the dessert is extra stuff that doesn't compliment the meal and you don't need it and you're not missing out on anything by not having it and if you REALLY want it then you can go dig in the dumpster for free dessert that is old as fuck but it's free
>>712944806They probably just have the mindset that the real FFT is their version, and the PSP port is just an alteration.
>>712946094This is a much better analogy thank you. Only thing i’ll change is saying that old management came back, removed the free dessert option, and telling people that they don’t need it since the original meal is perfect already
>>712945931>This is a blanket, hand-wavey statement that someone who doesn't read books in English and can't read books in Japanese would say to try to generalize all Japanese game and manga writing as simple and boring while still leaving the door open to praise their (perceived) high literature. You are defending a position you didn't state against a position I never took using a quote that does not touch upon either. I don't think you have much room to criticize anyone's usage or understanding of language.

so the play is either just play psx fft with the wotl modded or wotl with the speed hack to kill the slowdown and not buy the trash correct?
>>712932349It's complete garbage. It's what a high schooler would write in an attempt to sound "Shakespearian". It "reads well" to you because you've never read anything outside of a video game.
>>712947475>Anon please, this isn't my first day on the internet watching people talk about literature in languages they don't read. I'll take your word for it. But I will have to assume it is your first day on the internet being exposed to the English language, as you still fail to parse a sentence and successfully grasp its meaning. But don't worry, you'll get there eventually.
>>712916941Bro this game was made in 1996. The average comuter hard drive was 1.2gb total. With the most expensive external option being 2gb.
A single development at the time on average was 650mb-1gb in data. Thats like two games per external hard drive and these things were bricks that had a much higher failure rate.
On top of this digital distribution was not mainstream and people had no concept of remasters and digging up old hardware. They would outright just make a cheaper version for other hardware copy pasting as much as they could.
Its just time and the exponential explosion in storage size.
>>712948361>to anyone coming from a western literary tradition, the average Japanese dialogue writing has all the flavor of a particularly dry kitchen appliance instruction manual>>good Japanese writing requires a deep immersion into actual Japanese culture and mindset (not just shounen and morshit anime and JRPGs) to appreciate. These are your words. But I can admit that I'm petty enough to not let you have the smug satisfaction of claiming that my lack of willingness to engage you is tantamount to some kind of concession, so I'll rephrase my point using simple English so even you can understand it:
Japanese people grow up on Japanese-style writing and expect Japanese-style writing. Japanese-style writing is good for them. English-speaking people grow up on English-style writing and expect English-style writing. English-style writing is good for them. But Japanese-style writing is not English-style writing, and it is often not good for people who are only used to English-style writing. The reverse is also true. Because of this, English people and Japanese people need good translations, or must spend a lot of time studying the other's writing. This also means learning about the other's culture. Because this helps understand the reason for their writing style.
>>712950789>No, I don't think I will.That's what I thought.
>But I can admit that I'm petty enough to not let you have the smug satisfaction of claiming that my lack of willingness to engage you is tantamount to some kind of concession, so I'll rephrase my point using simple English so even you can understand it:Sorry, but that's not how this works.

>If this were actually true, then Murakami wouldn't have a career. And if it weren't true, Soseki wouldn't be one of the most enduring authorities on the subject of both types of literature, and the ways in which they differ.
>Sorry you got so butthurt that you tried to respond while still avoiding the direct question and you still made a fool of yourself."You've completely shattered whatever point I thought I had, but you didn't abide by the arbitrary rules I set beforehand, so I still win even thought I have no argument" was such a predictably trite response from you, but I guess in a way it's a fitting end to the discussion. I think we can at least agree on one thing, I am indeed sorry for expecting any response except a flowery "no u" from you.
Yeah but are they fixing the WotL sound effects?
>>712952027>but you do not get to decide how this works.Actually, I do. You're running away from a direct question and trying to talk in circles because I caught you with your pants down. That made you angry, and you took it as an insult to your intelligence, which you should. It hurt your pride and you're mad.
>And if it weren't true, Soseki wouldn't be one of the most enduring authorities on the subject of both types of literature, and the ways in which they differ. The entirety of your argument is predicated on the idea that people can't learn another language and its cultural norms, and that whatever they're "trained on" from birth is what they'll come to expect and appreciate. If that retarded and worthless notion held any water, then Soseki wouldn't have any appreciate for English literature at all. And just because I know you're going to try to talk around that again, I'll go ahead and quote what you said explicitly one more time.
>to anyone coming from a western literary tradition, the average Japanese dialogue writing has all the flavor of a particularly dry kitchen appliance instruction manual>Japanese people grow up on Japanese-style writing and expect Japanese-style writing. >The entirety of your argument is predicated on the idea that people can't learn another language I have not claimed this anywhere at all. It is not stated in the parts of my post you quoted, implicitly or explicitly. I have stated the exact and literal opposite, twice:
>and good Japanese writing requires a deep immersion into actual Japanese culture and mind>Because of this, English people and Japanese people need good translations, or must spend a lot of time studying the other's writing. This also means learning about the other's culture. I reiterate what I said initially: You do not even understand English. You are trying to argue in a language you have no grasp of.
>Don't be silly. Now that I've directly pointed out the glaring gaping hole in your argument we both know you're going to keep arguing to try to defend your objectively untenable position. There is nothing to defend, because we are not having an argument. An argument requires two parties to each take up incompatible positions. I have not taken up the position that you made up, and you have not taken up any position at all. From the beginning, you've done nothing except to screech into the void in your indignation from being called out in my original post, and I have done nothing except throw ad hominems at you to make fun of your miserable grasp of the English language, because I am not willing to defend a position I did not take in an argument a mentally deficient man, who has no position at all, keeps having entirely in his head. But I am admittedly very petty, as I said, and will happily continue to insult you until the thread dies.

>>712916714This is a lie because WotL and mobile versions exist. Holy shit fuck Square Enix up their retarded ass this company deserves to go out of business
Why can't Japs make an ultimate best version of an RPG? There's also some sort of downgrade or compromise compared to the original. You have this, all of Tales of Symphonia's remasters being stuck at 30 FPS, Dragon Quest VIII 3DS version having worse graphics than the PS2 version, Dragon Quest XI Echoes having worse graphics, Skies of Arcadia Gamecube has worse audio and missing minigames, and I'm sure there are plenty of more examples but those are just off the top of my head, I could probably sit and think of a lot more.
>>712955059I don't think you understand how source code works. Just because the gane exists doesn't mean you have access to its source code.
>>712954418>No, you don't, in spite of the version of me your schizoid mind has concocted to desperately find somebody to argue with because you saw yourself reflected in my original post, the clueless Japanese-illiterate media consumer who nevertheless has extremely strong opinions on the subject of language and translation.I went to college in Japan and am fluent in Japanese. I've also worked on fan and professional TL projects. You're projecting because you're angry and ignorant.
>It is not stated in the parts of my post you quoted, implicitly or explicitly.Saying something doesn't make it true, because you explicitly implied it.
>I reiterate what I said initially: You do not even understand English. You are trying to argue in a language you have no grasp of.You're stupid and angry that you got called out. You need to move on from this. You said something stupid and insisted that people by and large will not learn another langue and its surrounding culture and as a result get trained on one type of literature and then always have expectations that things will read that way. That's wrong. If it wasn't, Murakami wouldn't be such a lauded author.
>There is nothing to defend,Again, saying things doesn't make them true. You said the argument was over but you replied again, literally to defend yourself by pretending you didn't actually say the things you said. You're the one who doesn't know English.
>ad hominemsAh, you're a redditor pseud. That makes a lot of sense. We can add Latin to the list of languages you don't understand. Ad hominem isn't interchangeable with insult. Only the most retarded of redditors think that's what it means or how it's used. You can have another reply if your can demonstrate proficiency in any of the three languages that have come up as points of contention. >>712955180If they didn't have source code at the time they made the PSP version that means they remade the whole thing from scratch. Sounds like a lot of effort but it's plausible to reverse-engineer a game. Did they not save the assets then? Okay but then they made mobile versions too. Did they not save those either? Or did they actually decide to go out of their way to ignore the work done on WotL and remake the game again? Then they're retarded and have no one to blame but themselves.

2.You went on a huge tangent about how I supposedly misused ad hominem (which hilariously not only outs you as the redditor here, because only a redditor would be so anal - don't you have any fallacies you want to accuse me of making for some upvotes? - but also shows that you do not understand the term yourself, because you are, again, wrong), yet you are too much of an ignoramus to recognize your own oxymoron. "Explicitly implied"? You're making this almost too easy.

they should nerf calculators, math is OP as shit
>>712957663I honestly think Matsuno has just given up. The FFXIV stuff was his last attempt, and the way the content team fucked him over and the nips hated Bozja completely broke him. Apparently it's another ShB situation where Matsuno is getting cucked by someone else in the team. He apparently wanted some of the WoTL content to stay in as well as making the Genji stuff still stealable. The guy can't catch a break. He should at least be getting near Kojima levels of freedom.

So this is just an upscale of the ps1 game with no new content?
What's the point?
>>712959717Holy shit, lmao. Matsuno is truly cursed. The fucking contrast between his and Kojima's situations, too, considering they virtually started their careers together.
Kojima has his own studio named after himself, makes whatever the fuck games he wants with infinite time and budget, and rubs elbows with Hollywood celebs regularly, which is a dream come true for him.
Matsuno is practically jobless, doesn't get to direct content he headlines including games that he is famous for, and just generally has his name whored out fot cheap recognition by Square-Enix. What a fucking grim twist of fate.
>>712957663God you people are stupid. He wasn't "forced to cut content". He's taking his original game that HE MADE and adding NEW content HE WANTS. WotL wasn't made by him. It's FANFICTION.
>>712961249His team probably thought this is a slam dunk case to get praise from the fans. I wonder if they expected the backlash in the community over their decisions.

But this is literally the same company that moved their entire builder because of a bad omen from a fortune teller too.
>>712961298Kojima made popular games that have wide appeal. Matusono made niche rpg games.
If Vagrant Story was popular he'd be big but the game bombed. It's just boring to play, and that's not acceptable after Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear Solid were released.
>Sucks in air through their teeth, visibly distraught
>apologetically says "eto... Matsuno san, I don't think that's a good idea. Nice try though!"
The only reason to even bother at this point is the confirmation they had to remake the game from scratch in a modern engine, which may open up modding considerably. Even then, they've put Denuvo on it, so it's pirate-only for me.
Square needs to burn for their arrogance with remakes.
I feel like i'm going fucking insane that nobody mentions the weird stippled dithering on the remastered art assets
>>712961962>are they retarded? They added time jannies and alternate dimensions to FF7 just to make cliffhangers between each of the EPISODES. (Episodic videogames were proven not to work in the mid 2000's, btw.) What do you think?
>>712962320because most people are not going to touch their "new" version lmao
>>712961791Just looking at the state of SE the past 20 years and the fact the creator of Final Fantasy isn't even working there anymore, not really.
>>712960359>the lead director for the remaster is a fucking idiot. It's the guy who wrote FFXVI, so...
The fact that they're using the wotl script but not the wotl content is so fucking stupid. They should have an option to use the original script if you want, but I'm more concerned that the graphics look like a standard psx emulator blurring mask.
New features like the turn order on screen look amazing though. Hopefully modders go crazy with it
>>712962469>Sakaguchi gave Matsuno his big break in SquareHave they collabed after leaving Squenix?
>>712961791I think he's the problem because he's spineless. Quitting is a coward's way out, he should have put his feet down and have everything his way. Now every new director push him around like the wuss he is, while SE keeps using his name and clout to attract dumb coonsumers who don't know better, and he just meekly nods along.
Cowards truly die many times.
>>712962320You're not insane but it's just another visual aspect of the remake that makes it look like the laziest AI upscale possible. It's not worth singling out in that sense, I think.
What I want to know is how every person who seems to like upscales and sprite filters seems to simultaneously have obtained positions as graphic directors of every sprite-based game remake out there. Maybe it's because I live in a /v/ bubble but I feel like I see nothing but hate for this, yet all of these remakes and remasters look like the Yoshi/Funky Kong reaction images making fun of filters.
>>712962654he quit ff12, he quit the storylines he got in ff14, and he's folding on this

>>712962286I want the Japanese voice acting and the new dialogue that Matsuno wrote.
>>712962356>quite literally no point playing because the only new things about this shit version is gameplay "balancing" and voice acting, which no one really gives a shit about it>no WoTL content, despite using the script>the only shit they're doing with this adding more dialogue to uniques...unironically what is the fucking point? Fags who like wotl can just play it on an emu with a speed hack or whatever they need to get rid of the slowdown and OG fags can just play vanilla or mod the wotl content (if they care about it) into it. >>712954721>Why are these fucking retarded companies always losing the source code for their games?Because they didn't make the originals for Nintendo platforms. If they did, they could have gone to Nintendo because they keep the source code for all the games that release on their platforms.
>>712962885>I don't know how devs can show their faces in public with this shit.Part of the issue is probably because we don't see their faces and can't publically shame them for this kind of shit. Shame needs to be brought back. Make a shitty port, your picture and e-mail are paraded online for you to receive shit mail.
>>712916413 (OP)So it's a shittier remaster than WotL, thanks for warning me, I will proceed to take it right out of my wishlist.
>>712962970>im buying this dogshit slop>and also maybe they're going to make more games like tactics ogre and ftt if they see some interestThis is 2025. You buying this shit will make them make a remaster of FFTA1 and FFTA2. They don't make new games.
>>712963015>You now realize that if FFTA1 and 2 ever get remastered they have no choice but to ask nintendo for source code because they might be the only company that still has it>Switch 2 exclusiveGrim
>>712954721Common industry practice in Japan. Similar to Toei just dumping the master audio for dbz which is why the Jp track is always mono and muffled in the various releases. Quality control was so bad that the Honolulu team didn’t even get the final build of FF7 to build the initial disaster of a pc port.
>>712962805Isn't it supposed to have a new translation? That'd be the highlight since the PSX and PSP translations were both shit in opposite ways.
>>712962885I get a native port of the original game on PC, and an "enhanced" port that might have some good extra dialogue. For modern SE, that's a best case scenario. Every higher up there is a soulless, retarded suit, or a retarded chuuni faggot.
>>712963147supposedly they're running with the wotl script, albeit slightly altered
>>712962739>i'm beginning to suspect he's just difficult to work withThis isn't even something you need to suspect, most people who have worked with him have outright said he is a massive stickler for detail, people have compared him to a fussy mother with a knows-best attitude.
But that's not unique to him, every autheur director is like that, and his autism is why he made some of the best games of all time. Working under Kojima, Miyamoto, even some smaller-scale ones like Yoko Tarot, is surely no different. But among them, he is the only one who gets shat on by his studi and his own Former employees.
I think the wuss theory is correct. E.g. Kojima has such a massive ego that he'd rather quit and fuck off from Konami forever than let somebody backtalk him; Matsuno did that with FF12 but came crawling back to SE, and that seems to have sealed the deal.
Kinda surprising they didn't add Noctis or Clive. They even hired the VA for Clive iirc.
>>712963303Given there's canonically a machine that can pull people from other universes, I'm almost surprised they didn't include a gacha system where you can draw for random FF protags aside from Cloud. Fuck, get Sora in there.
>>712963101>>712963107>implying they would ever remaster a1 and a2we unironically more likely to see a remake of FFT using whatever engine and artstyle they used for war of the visions than that
>>712963303It does seem odd. Looking at what the hacking community has done with events and customer recruits I can’t image it’d be hard at all for SE
>>712921613same. based haggler.
I do wonder...why did Ogre Tactics reborn get a few changes and the PSP content but this one didn't?
Final Fantasy is more important to Squeenix right?
They seem to be just porting the PS1 original with a feww QoLs, frankly without the WotL content this doesn't seem worth it to me
The pixel remasters were at least considerably cheaper, this one's full remaster price
>>712963504Who was in charge of TO? FFT is CBU3, and they're all retarded faggots.
>>712963504Tactics Ogre is the darling in Japan like FFT is the darling of the west.
>>712963504I wonder…perhaps Matsuno loves TO more???
>>712963631I'm not up to date on SE intrnal teams, but that would make sense
>>712963668I mean, if it werent' for the FF elements i'd love Tactics ogre more, i just didn't know the japs had it as a darling in particular
>>712962739>>712962654I said a million years ago he should have quit and just went to manga and light novels. Even if they're mediocre and not hits, they would be his babies.
>>712963504>I do wonder...why did Ogre Tactics reborn get a few changes and the PSP content but this one didn't?Matsuno worked on the PSP TO because he was pissy they ported FFT without him. I think in an alt-universe, with Matsuno handling the FFT PSP port, he would have made grander changes and they would have stuck.
>>712916413 (OP)War of the Lions is the definitive version anyway.
King James Bible basically.
>>712962532I think the only way they have meaningfully interacted publicly since the Square days is when they were playing FF14 together (which was more of a marketing stunt/favor to Yoshida, although Sakaguchi seems to have stuck with it). It seems they are on good terms personally, but neither has an interest in working together professionally; unsurprising as Sakaguchi also seems done with large projects.
>>712964039he'd have been an exceptional mangaka if he could draw
>>712960753No? The unique knight classes are busted. They hit like a truck at decent range, are cast instantly for free, and often proc powerful status effects. And Cid has all of them. Every other class has to make tradeoffs aside from calculator, but you're already curbstomping everyone by the time you unlock them.
>>712964325The most famous of course are writer/artist hybrids, but there's nothing stopping you from just being a manga writer. Team up with an artist and make some medieval fantasy drama. How hard would ti be?
>>712964458Agrias and Cid were already busted, and Dark Knight just allows that for Generics and Ramza.
>>712917602The OG translation has some great lines in it but it is genuinely poorly translated in most of the script, the story is infamously hard to follow.
Sakaguchi seems to just prefer his smaller scale teams where everyone pitches in ideas. See the pixel remaster interviews. Meanwhile Matsuno prefers his dictatorial approach. No wonder FFXII didn’t work.
>>712964606L I T T L E M O N E Y
>>712962805>what in the fuck is the point of this ((definitive)) versionNo one ever said this is the "definitive version". It's a different version, a more canon version from the WotL fanfiction, maybe. New UI, new story changes, new translation (we've seen differences from the WotL in videos already) and full voice acting. It's basically for people who hate reading, first and foremost, I would say. But there could be interesting new story content by the original creator as well. We have to wait and see how good/bad the new script and added scenes end up being.
>>712965030Do we have any idea what engine it's being made in? A wide open door for modding could make this the definitive version not because of anything in or not in it, but for simply being able to get out of its own way for fans to fix it.

>>712964606Yeah, for years I genuinely thought Dycedarg was replaced by his evil elder brother because of that translation, what I assumed was that he was killed by the Death Corps when they raided the castle, but they had some previously unseen brother pose as him in order to keep morale high.
I am looking forward to how they fix the unusable skills like charge and the additional scenes for uniques after they join. Oh I hope we get Ramza x Agrias
Pixel remasters didn't include anything from the later ports of the games included so this isn't surprising.
>>712965164That literally says it's the best version for people who have only played the original or have never played any version. Learn to read. It doesn't say it's the definitive version that includes all WotL content.
The wotl content wasn’t that good anyway
>>712965484>Advertise it's the perfect version>Actually it's missing content>this is okay apparently(you)

>bootlickers in full force
lmfao
Unironically I'm still mad that they took out a lot of dialogue in some more recent remasters! Modders are supposed to be fighting the good fight against censorship but they likely won't change the edited dialogue
>>712965847>Bait, or actually illiterate? You're illiterate. Read it again, idiot.
They said it's perfect FOR newcomers and people who have ONLY played the ORIGINAL. NOT that it's the "perfect" version of the game. I can't believe I am even explaining this right now, how stupid are you?
>>712966075What has been censored? Cerya’s gangrape in TO wasn’t censored and nothing in FFT comes close to that.

>>712967098I preordered the collector edition btw
>>712966631Extra content is good if the content is better. The extra jobs are big memes that should be rebalanced to be more interesting, but even if they aren't there are a million other things that break the game's balance worse than them from the original game. Most of the extra scenes only give extra context to flesh out some scenarios. Luso and balthier are better characters and cameos than cloud. A company knows it won't land well if they advertise their game as "one more port with some exclusive content but not other content from another game." They want it to be the definitive version but they don't want to put in any effort to actually make it definitive. Calling it fanfiction bullshit is hilarious because they're obviously content with keeping the writing which is what most people's objections with the game are about.
