I assume they're teenagers, so they still don't have a solid grasp of the world and priorities.

Yes, people still really really care about achievements. You still got sonytards grinding for plat like it’s their life. I sort of care about achievements in a way too. If enabling cheat codes or something like that disables my cheevos, I avoid using them during a playthrough. But, I don’t care about grinding for plat trophies. Not sure why my mind works that way

>see achievement
>it's for something that quite literally everybody who plays the game will do (i.e. pick up an item or kill an enemy)
The fuck is the point? Shouldn't they be unique challenges or a creative way to play the game? Why is it always just a checklist of shit everybody who plays the game will do?

Cheevos still matter as an official badge telling other people you did xyz for games that are actually challenging. Otherwise it's useless

I wonder how much "the average gamer" actually cares.

If you talkabout any game it seems like every fucker "has the plat". But when I finish any game on hard with 60% completion or whatever it usually is, and I look at the busy work, I just have no desire to do it at all.

Yeah I could level select to chapter 5 and use the electric stun gun to farm lightning element kills, or load up SSJBIGDAWGZ collectibles video walk-through but like... I don't want to?

It is unfortunate that your parents reproduced, true.

I've seen enough retards on steam to know that there are people that build their identities on their achievement showcases.

I get achievements in games my friends have just to try and subversively make them jealous of me

i somewhat care if the cheevos are like progress markers on a first playthrough, it helps me visualize where i'm at if i've dropped it for a while and came back.
otherwise i'll only truly care if the cheevos unlock new content, like risk of rain and isaac -- but i'm not one of those le super god platinum rank grindan fags or whatever

Its nice to get during gameplay as a side thing.
I get no idea why you would chase them though.

>Look at Dark Souls 3 Achievements
>Lighting your first bonfire sits at 93.9%
>Beating the tutorial boss sits at a comfortable 85.4%
>Beating the game drops to a whooping 25.9%
Player retention starts dropping within seconds of gameplay, they need constant encouragement and a feeling of sunk costs or they will just refund the game.

I have exactly one Platinum and it's for Sly Cooper 1 on PS3, and I wasn't even trying to get that one; I simply beat the game and collected 100% of the items, and just for that it gave me the Plat. Kinda neat to get one so unexpectedly, even if it was piss easy, but as >>712921182 says I'd never go out of my way for any cheevos that ask me to play the game in grindy, obtuse, or otherwise deliberately unfun ways to play it.

I've heard these are more for devs to track completion rates and I can't think of any other reason for achievements to exist in the first place
