These guys have really cleaned up house. It's pride month, but there are no articles on it for 2025. There is no slop pieces on which characters are gay or trans. No other political content too for a while. It was the first ever gaming site to go woke back in 2011, and now it's one of the first to slowly de-woke

I will never trust anyone or anything that has ever been "woke" at any point in time. Good riddance. Even if they make a swastika their logo I will not give them a single click

nobody will ever take them serious again
they have to change their name and completely rebrand and detach themselves from their past, but they can't do that either because games urinalism is dead and they can't restart from zero

Any other old people here that remember Kotaku from before the identity politics days?
Back in like 2004 it was actually a pretty fun site.
I guess that goes with GameSpot and a bunch of other places too though... It's actually really weird how it spread like a mental virus or something

they have been a left wing political blog using vidya to push their message for over a decade
last year their owners told them to fuck off and start writing vidya guides instead of leftoid social activism bullshit, which made part of the staff resign, others wouldn't listen and got fired and now flip burgers for a living.
so now they're just vidya, but their reputation is still ruined because it was all lefty/pol/ and homosex activism bs for over a decade.

>decade

Anon, Trump was elected 9 years ago. People keep talking about a "decade" ago like it's 2010. Kotaku has been a left wing social activism blog since it's inceptionin 2004, and really came into prominance around 2008 (coinciding with the rise of Tumblr). So the site is 20 years old, it's mainstream relevancy 15, and they have only started cutting back the nonsense in the last few years.

The higher up suits are just looking at data, and the social activism shit isn't polling that well anymore. The people who consume that kind of media still exist, but they retreated to discord, twitter, or reddit, and they share their outrage there rather than rely upon Kotaku to generate it. And the rest of the gamers left them.

>my entire metric for quality is how much the thing in question aligns with my political views
You are mentally ill, and Kotaku, like all games journalist retardation, is still shit.

Goober gate was the culmination of the SJW activism that started on tumblr. Twitter was barely a thing at first, and the tumblr people only migrated to there later.

I vaguely recall a Kotaku journo in 2010 or so doing an unboxing of Otomedius Excellent and making horny jokes over the included body pillows or something and then proto-SJWs getting mad at moe

I do, some fun articles like how captain N had fucked up character designs because the guy drawing the designs had like 3 days to do it and a busted tv with the wrong colors to olay the NES games.
