I remember when I used to throw LAN parties back in the Halo 1/2 days, all sorts of games from Counter-Strike, etc. Tons of people would always show up. It was a social aspect but it was mainly to improve upon games, find new strategies/tactics, etc, to which when we then went online destroyed scrubs. As online gaming started to take over that social aspect was gone and it became more isolated. It was easier to make friends back then too because even on PC everyone had a mic, today, consoles don't even come with a basic headset and even if they do most people would create private chat lobbies and get into their echo chamber. Nowadays people are too pussy to even speak, and even when we have the freedom to do so we have to tread lightly because you can get banned for saying the "wrong" thing. Practically, not making friends to-day is by design.
